Default Expensive XR8 scam?

Just browsing through carsales and this beauty caught my eye

clicky here

then further down the page this one,,hmm looks familiar hey?

here

interior shot on the last one is of an Octane model, and the outside looks identical to the other XR8 yet they claim it to be a GS?

I think the little caption below the photo's gives it away. They are both dealers and just using "example" photo's, not photo's of the real car.

XR8's and GS's share the same model number. This is why they will come up as an XR8.

The GS is an XR8 that has gone to FPV and had a somewhat makeover (FPV twin throttle body, dual exhaust, wheels, badges, decals, etc).

The car itself is identical to an XR8 bar the decals and wheels.

The dealer looks like Denmac at Indooroopilly. Doubt that it is a scam, probably just got the ad's and pictures mixed up.

If you have a GS, you can tell people its a milder GT, you wouldnt say its a spruced up XR8, especially considering its an FPV not a FORD.

Great value buying that one

Seems like a lousy scam. You'd have to be a complete nong to play $70k+ for an XR8.

One thing I notice that annoys me about quite a number of car adds on carsales. A lot of dirty driver side foot wells. Vacuum before taking photos!!

seems all it gets is rims, suspension mods, a little more power and a slightly different interior ... doesnt seem worth the extra $7k IMO

which would be fine if the FPV badge was prestigious in some way. it isnt.

IMO, FPV would be prestigious if the first model they had created was a GTHO worthy of the name. it would have earnt respect.

HSV and FPV have simply been bringing out models which chase the $$$ but without achieving much more than the models from which they're derived.

for a lesson in how it's done, one need only look at BMW (M) or Merc (AMG) ....

I think it's definitely worth the $7k, particularly as it's an FPV you will enjoy alot better resale value down the track and it'll have bucket loads more street cred. Plus the fact that you get the detuned GT motor, FPV interior goodies, dark argent rims, suspension goodies and yes, stripes.

If FPV could charge $150k+ for their cars (and have a market willing to buy them) then I'm sure you would end up with something a little more special. However, these cars are ~$60k, the value for money is unbeatable and they have no shortcomings in performance.
