Default Poor bloody dog.

A lot of unsavoury types in Mareeba. I'll leave it at that.

I don't think I want to know. Some people make me sick to the pit of my existance. The kind of people that in a perfect world I'd love to catch upwith somewhere secluded, with the higher ground, but know that my stomach couldn't handle it.

This story I think OP refers.

Quote:
THE RSPCA is hunting the owner of a bullmastiff-cross who allegedly left the dog to die in summer heat with a 30kg chain wrapped around its neck after beating it with a steel bar, punching it and trying to break its legs.
See link.

I think the punishment should fit the crime. They should do exactly the same thing to the owner, see how he takes it. Thats a tough dog, hopefully he's not mentally scarred.

I've spent over $7000 on my Staffy over about 11 years. He's my best mate, I don't know how anyone can abuse a dog like that.

"Neighbours say two-year-old Boof was also kicked and stomped on by its Mareeba owner during two days of torture before they called authorities".

Almost as sad as the main story, that it took 2 days watching this before calling the authorities. What's wrong with us??, Do we really need "authorities" to intervene??

FFS. Any neighbour of mine doing that would soon find me flying over the fence.

Animal cruelty is one thing I will jump in to stop.

OMG - and the human race refers to them as animals? Having a large number of dogs that live like Royalty, I cannot even come to grips with something like this. I now feel justified screening new owners in such a stringent manner and saying NO to anyone I am not completely happy with, to adopt one of my pups. The odd person doesn't like it - too bad!

The scary thing is that this sort of behaviour by a human being is one of the first stages in potential murderers - particularly serial ones.

Prayers that this poor dog ends his days in a loving home and passes his socialisation tests unlike his current owner.

im pretty angry after seeing that link. like RG i'd be vaulting the fence to clobber the bloke who did it, sorry if that's not everyones cup of tea but hey, cruelty to animals is a shocking thing. the poor things can't even defend themselves against things like chains and the like. i admire the dogs resiliance and i too hope it ends up in a loving home.

Despite people believing we're a superior being, we're really no better in many, many cases.

I hope the system really hits this mongrel (the man, not the dog) hard.
I wouldn't mind seeing this mongrel's legs snapped and an electrified chain tied around his neck and left in the middle of a desert...

However, they would either not learn their lesson, or go spaz and do something worse.

They need to be put on a registry that denies them ever owning any animals for life. This registry should be made available to breeders on request regarding potential buyers...complicated...but I think it's almost necessary.

He's 30, an adult and made his choice. No sympathy if anything comes his way.

That's actually some immensely good reasoning and a very good idea there.
I don't know that I could restrain myself if I knew of someone committing acts like these. Primitive justice or vengeance is not the right approach, perhaps, but gosh-darn does it feel like it's the right thing. I feel that a more legal alternative of a mandatory prison sentence for these types of offences of perhaps a month would satisfy more, keeping in mind that such people do not fare very well in gen pop.
But, unfortunately, I think that could just be very counter productive. I can't say I would prefer the idea you put forward, but it really is a very good one.

Add onto your idea other limitations similar to those given to other sick scum like sex offenders et al who've proven that certain rights of theirs should be statutorily forfeited, and we're beginning to acknowledge the cruelty of select humans ("if you could bring yourself to call them that", of course) against other humans and other animals alike.

We also need to somehow stop people being sad(istic) can'ts. I don't know why this reptile like absense of humanity is creeping into people more and more, but it's obviously something that very much needs every resource put to not only exactly punishment but most importantly prevention (You can bet much of this sick behaviour flies under the radar unknown). Not just for the safety of helpless animals against animals that can't help themselves, either.

A registry and laws preventing may go a long way to preventing repeat offences (once the people are caught the first time). Good thinking mate, it's a start.

Anyone that cares could get the ball rolling by taking 10 minutes out for writing or phoning their local pollie.

the problem with germs like this is if you jumped the fence he would be off like a jack rabbit. As he wouldn't be brave enough to face something or someone that would fight back.

I say give him a needle and put us out of our misery with having a grub like him breathing the same air as us.

Not complicated at all and maybe an idea you should present to the RSPCA and your local member as it is a good one.

An online database that was accessible by all breeders and kept up to date by the RSPCA would be as easy to maintain as the register for current licensed drivers/security officers/etc. Another upshot of this is it would also have an effect on dodgy breeders as the same database could be used to find registered breeders.

Good idea in theory Russell and I think it is so great that people are starting to think like this but unfortunately there are 2 main groups of dog breeders.

ANKC Registered ones who have so many rules and regulations to live by (and they are heavily enforced) and backyard breeders/puppy farmers who have no Governing Body and do as they please.

To be a Reg Breeder with the VCA (Vic branch of the ANKC) you have to have a license, attend a course and sit a final exam then sign a contract. The second group just do as they please.

You'll find that most of the unwanted dogs or misplaced dogs are from the unregistered breeders and most of the time are crossbreds.

As a VCA breeder, I have to breed from only Reg dogs, only at ages they permit, only so many litters and all pups must be vaccinated, registered with the VCA, microchipped (these numbers are put on their papers), wormed etc and not allowed to leave my care until they are 8 weeks old. We are not allowed to sell to pet shops either. We must keep paperwork and know who we sold our pups to and their details and be able to produce those when asked for them. We have a code of conduct which is quite extensive which has animal welfare in mind.

Despite this we still will have some breeders that are not good people but that happens in all walks of life. This is about the overall problem and solution.

As long as there is a market for crossbred dogs, there will be puppy farms and backyard breeders with no duty of care and no recourse for unwary purchasers. They generally sell to anyone and as soon as the door is closed forget about where this innocent puppy has gone and to who. The RSPCA is there to just mop up the results of this.

As a matter of interest, Hugh Worth (RSPCA) is a member of the Club I am involved with and has 2 of my breed. He bought 2 pedigree dogs himself not rescue crossbreds.
