Default power steering rack-cost

have sprung a couple of leaks in the rack. 1st is from the main body at the back, its comming from the huge nut! 2nd i found is a drip comming out of the left hand rack boot(has a small split) so i assume a seal?

so are this fixable? or would a reco rack be the go? if so what cost am i looking at.

I think you get get a reco rack for around the $350 mark.

They aren't very dear.

I'm assuming the $350 would be installed? That was the approximate cost last time I had a reco rack fitted.

A reco item has been rebuilt and you can never be sure what you get from the wreckers. You'd have to get it installed as well.

The reco rack would also have the better warranty I expect.

Food for thought in any case.

Hope you get it sorted okay.

Dont forget a wheel align is required after a fitment of a rack too. Factor that into your estimations.

Priced these not long ago at repco. They sell reconditioned racks for $492 (changeover). Then you have to fit it and do an alignment.

Best bet is hit the wreckers.

???

My mechanic did a reco rack for me. Including the rack, labour, wheel alignment and p/s fluid it was around the $450 - $500 mark inc gst.
