Usually kevlar jeans. Big difference between those and your regular denim.

(not least of all the price : )

Just another Squid, plenty around, like car hoons they give the rest of us a bad name.

Quote:
Squid is an irresponsible motorcyclist; it is generally associated with a new or reckless motorcyclist seen riding erratically and/or beyond his or her capabilities, often without appropriate riding gear.

The origin of the word is varyingly attributed as:# A contraction of squirreley and kid, or an acronym for "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous" or "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed and Imminently Dead"# Observing a squid underwater, it seems that the creature is unable to change direction while swimming without first coming to a near complete stop. Once the squid does stop and change directions, it can very quickly accelerate back to its regular swimming speed. Beginning motorcyclists (especially sports bike riders) commonly have trouble turning the motorcycle with any substantial amount of speed (causing them to slow down to unnecessarily slow speed to take a turn), while at the same time have a tendency to ride very fast on the straight sections of the road.# Newly-inducted sailors based in San Diego in the '60s would frequently buy an inexpensive 2-stroke moto for transportation while on shore, whether they'd ever ridden before or not. So, you had large numbers of unprotected, inexperienced "marine life", squirting through traffic in a hurry and leaving a trail of black "ink" (smoke) behind them.

Often young, this motorcyclist is identified by their reckless abandon (speeding, wheelies, stoppies etc.) and by their inappropriate attire (Shorts, backwards ball cap, flip flops, Wife Beater T-shirt, etc). Such a rider eschews all or most of the protective gear worn by many riders (helmet, gloves, leather jacket, riding pants, and boots) and the social and legal norms of riding behaviour, and as such is looked upon with derision by experienced motorcyclists, who also refer to them as "organ donors", "Zip-Splats", "Skin Crayons", and "soon-to-be-ex-motorcyclists".

I thought the term 'squid' meant that the rider would one day only be useful as bait like the creature after a crash!

Well this thread just opened a big can of Whoop-dee-doo. If I had a dollar for all the bike riders I see in that attire....

EDIT: In the same token, I think riding a bike is nuts full stop, let alone in shorts and thongs. If they had any sense of self worth theyd wear the right gear. Ive never ridden a bike myself, but given the nasty skinnings i got as a kid on a push bike, having the same on a motorbike could only be horrifyingly painful.

x2 on skin crayons. In all light heartedness, thats a good one.

after seeing first hand what happens to a person who doesn't wear the appropriate gear when riding I cannot understand why people would run the risk.

A close mate of mine came off his Ninja at around 100km/h wearing a polo shirt and standard denim jeans. The guys still in hospital getting daily dressing changes that cause him so much pain they are been forced to keep him sedated because he was fighting the hospital staff off. He's lost 2 fingers and possibly will lose another.

So to all you crotchrocket riders out there, please for the love of god were the proper riding gear

Only a minute percentage of registered donors actually donate.

I think only brain-related fatalities mean that the lower organs are undamaged.

I think sliding off a bike and having your skin torn off would possibly render your internal organs useless....

It is a figure of speech used to refer to riders of motorcycles that refuse to wear proper safety equipment, not in a literal sense.

how stupid, why would you go to all that trouble to protect you top half, then be dumb enough to wear shorts and thongs on a bike, anyone who rides should realised the dangers of riding without proprer saftey gear :
