They have a system in place to report hoons too, yet they often have a hoon blitz.

What do we expect? There is a looming state election coming up towards the end of the year, the state government has to look like its police force is doing something. And the labour government has the audacity to carry on about jeff kennets liberal government slashing police spending and numbers, that was over 10 years ago that the kennet government was thrown out!

It shouldn't be up to us to take down vehicle details whilst driving!

Mate of mine had a Harley with shotgun pipes - basically a chrome bit of pipe with no baffles at all. The thing sounded great...and incredibly loud.

He pulled up at a set of lights next to an unmarked TOG/HWP car. Got pulled over, had a chat about the bike, checked rego and had a breatho and then released to be on his way.

Got an EPA notice the next week for excessive noisy exhaust - no surprise to him.

On the day he is booked for the EPA inspection he pulls into his Harley shop and they pull the legal pipes off the wall and bolt them on. Gets his tick of approval from the EPA and one the way home has the legal pipes swapped again for his illegal ones.

Haha my old maths tutor has the same pipes, he just swaps them back and fourth if he gets done by cops, this is a guy in his mid 40s too.

One can get away with this, but if caught again with a modified vehicle after a check it is an instant fine and possible registration suspension.

Oh wow a few ricers and over eager V8's get new exhausts... woo hoo.

I can assure you now that I'm back to living on a hill near a major highway, trucks using their engine brakes on the downhill side is far louder than any car and always at times when people are trying to sleep.... that and those irritating mid life crisis harley's. Seriously if a bikie wants a loud exhaust then so be it... but these groups of ************** on their sunday morning rides are beyond anoying.

This has been the normal modus operandi for years. But now in Qld at least you get done three times for it and you forfeit your vehicle... I kid you not. Now getting caught three times means you are doing it on purpose, for sure. But where else in the law, apart from drug dealing, do you know that you can forfeit valuable goods for minor infractions... The game has turned way, way too far when that is allowed to happen.

I'm more concerned about the performance pipe part mentioned in the memo.

So anyone who has a sports exhaust or extractors will be targeted. We should be concerned as it's just one step closer to a ban of said add-ons.

Just for info:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/wee...-1225854733545

Quote:
HOONS caught out this weekend will get a five day reprieve after Victoria Police was forced to shut down its Vehicle Impoundment Yard this evening.

Toxic asbestos particles were discovered in the Preston yard in two working desks.

The yard is in lock down, which means Police won’t be able to seize any vehicles this weekend.

Police insist dangerous drivers will not be let off the hook.

Hoons detected this weekend will be issued with a surrender notice ordering them to hand their car in for impoundment in 5 days.

A police spokeswoman said that under hoon legislation police can serve notices to surrender within 10 days of the offence.

The yard will remain closed until Work Safe hygienists can test the rest of the complex.

Work Safe industrial cleaners are cleaning quarantined sections of the yard.

I hate my home state..

Target the Lancers with Milo Tins and Farmer bennys old Skyline with 500,000Km and blowing smoke as far as the eye can see, those are real EPA Issues.

Everyone around my house loves my car including 60-70 year old residents and it's *ahem* Loud..

The Herald Sun.

Following England's "The Sun" philosophy of not letting the truth, morals, ethics or any semblance of knowledge getting in the way of articles.

Real journalists must hate these Herald Sun writers.

I dont envy the guys in Vic. More often the case the cars with loud are much better maintained then cars that are seen and not heard due to the enthusiast owners

Yeah, I too would like to see a crack down on smoky bombs that pollute our roads. Usual culprits are 80s Japanese cars and vans. Can't have your window down or vents open if you're in traffic these days.

Surprised there's no passage in there saying

"And also targetting pod style performance air filters. These filters are dangerous as they can become soaked with fuel and can ignite, resulting in massive fires" as i have heard directly from a cops mouth on Today Tonight...

I was disgusted when i heard that one...(the story was about a Sting the police/TT set up targetting done up cars in Sydney(Homebush) about a month or 2 ago..

i gather the cop was to gutless to tell him on the spot about the epa notice(refering harley noise)this state is going to the dogs.thay wonder why no one has any respect for them.they should be renamed the state revenue collection service, but then again its hard to get fines out of drug dealers, rapists, etc, who dont care.i suppose it is the cars, bikes that my be a bit loud or a couple of ks over the limit that keep people from going out of a night time and not the former
