I know it's easy to poke fun at Fremantle for being so weak for most of its previous 15 seasons, but I find it genuinely pleasing and exciting to see them play solid football. The AFL needs Fremantle to win a flag because that club IMO has an image of mediocrity and failure, moreso than the three Victorian clubs that have not won a premiership in over 40 years - Bulldogs, St Kilda and Melbourne. If Geelong had not won anything in the past four completed seasons, then what would we have to show for it, let alone the past 20 completed seasons since the competition became the AFL? Brownlows - Nil (2) Nab Cups - Nil (2) Premierships - Nil (2) AFLPA MVPS - Nil (3) Coaches Awards etc. etc. It's a fine line but when a team gets success on the board, many people will pay them respect. I think Fremantle is doing a great job at the moment. They have had a massive list turnover in the past 2 years and we're finally seeing a list that Harvey has created and although I think he's a crap media performer and I really do not know his style of coaching, I hope he is able to succeed.

This would be funny if Freo weren't a good team paying good footy this year.
Since they are, this thread is nothing but fail.

its great for genuine stars like pavlich to taste that regular success. if he decided to come east, he'd be extremely highly sought after. i've still got no idea why adelaide chased wayne carey instead of pavlich. admittedly he did say he wasn't coming but dangle a big enough carrot...
i'm no adelaide supporter, but blind freddy can see they need a dominant target up forward. |
