Hey guys,
As a few of you may no I have just dismantle my 2.0L pinto. I plan to rebuild this engine with hopes getting some reasonable hp. I am considering to bore the block out 40 thou or so, with flat top pistons (while still keeping standard crank I heard some where they are good for around 8000rpm and are quiete strong). For the head, I thought of shaving the block, double valve springs, bigger valves, mild cam etc. I was planning on running a carby set up. IF i did go EFI would I need to change anything? I plan to run this in mk2 2 door, or I may being getting a mk1 cortina of my mates granny ?? Any thoughts, suggestions or otherwise is greatly appreciated. Other than using a different motor I plan to use the old pinto : Cheers, James |

the pintos use flat top pistons anyway as the combustion chamber is in the head, big valves and a cam are a good improvement. you find that most good fast road/ rally cams will rev anywhere up to 6500-7500/8000. Buy a complete kit that comes with cam, followers & springs, (not all will have double springs - there are differing thoughts on these )
having the head ported makes a huge improvement too, it really all comes down to what you want to do with the motor |

You don't need 'double springs'... what you do need is a set of springs that have approx 80lbs (at installed height) seat pressure, the most important thing is that the springs do not become 'coil bound' at full lift.
But more important than that is the spray bar always use a new one, and possibly update the oil pressure relief valve (approx 80lbs pressure is ideal) Cheers Engine Guy |
