Default AU2 I6 Auto Gear box Problem

Hi

This only happens when the car is cold parked overnight or parked for a long period of time.

I start the car when it is cold and put it into drive nothing happens ,put it into reverse same thing nothing happens.

After about 1 minute of letting it idle try putting it back into gear everything is fine.

Drives normal after that, no noises changes gears fine.

Any one got any ideas what the problem could be or maybe it is a sign of something about to happen ,any help would be appreciated.

Give it a service and a top up, its just low on fluid. Even if you just top it up, that would be better than doing nothing. Its not a huge problem, just get a bit of fluid in it and it will be fine.

agree with The Monty. Probably overdue for a service. Make sure you explain your problem to the business that does the service so that they are aware and they can offer advice. A service can range from $90-$110 depending on where u go.

Had the same issue and it's definitely low fluid, there isn't enough pressure in the box for it to change gears.

Hi

Rang up the Auto Transmission place that last service the gearbox they told me that i might need to recondition the gearbox and it would cost around $1700 for the whole job as there is not enough pressure in the box for it to change gears.

It as done 13,000km from the last service the car as now 170,000km.

Anyway i think i will try the cheap alternative first get it top up and see how it goes.


Any other ideas will be great.

When the gearbox cools down the steel components contract (shrink) and on a worn gearbox, this causes excessive clearances between the teflon seals and the bush within they run. So on cold start up their is a gap for the oil to escape, and there for the oil dumps back into the pan instead of going to the clutch pack. Winter only makes the issue more prevalant.
