Hey fellas, did the routine search with no results. I have a loud ticking/clicking noise coming from the rear left wheel. I replaced disks, pads, handbrake shoes and every little screw and bracket in the handbrake mechanism (bought the PBR rebuild kit) But the infamous noise is still there.
Doesn't make a difference whether driving straight hard right or hard left. I had looked at the brake dust protector to see if it's bent and no go all seems A OK. In my experience wheel bearings are clunking or metal on metal noise. Car is AU II Ghia IRS. Any help or advice will be really appreciated at this point. |

Hey Serge, Do NOT be fooled by the wheel bearings mate. I just had to replace 1 in my xr8. It sounded like a rock catching on my disk, but unfortunately the bearing had actually been chewwed up. So i know its extra hassle, but definately worth checking just to be on the safe side.

Had to replace my hub and axle as the bearing was flogged out. Check the HOW-TO section, there is a guide on there.

easy way to check if the bearing is shagged or perhaps just loose is to raise the wheel off the ground and see if there is any movement. I had an issue where the hub nut on the brake end of the drive shaft kept coming loose. the only thing holding the wheel on was the brake disk that couldn't get past the caliper assembly. I ended up tack welding the nut as a temp solution and then changed the whole rear end ala ebay. was cheaper than sourcing hubs.

My left bearing in my ghia was shagged... Similiar noise.
When I jacked the car up & placed on stands, I ran the car & I noticed the wheel rocking from side to side!!!! Upon pull down I found The bearing was shot... It had seized up & then let go!!! Which ended up wrecking the hub as well... |
