Hi Guys,
I am having issues with the headlights.. One side does not light up.. When the highbeam is turned on, all the lights come on.. So I assume the globes are fine.. Tried swapping the relay but made no difference... only thing i can see is that a parking globe is also not coming on on this side. Havent removed that one to check yet... Is there some relationship between the park lights and the headlights??? :S What can be the issue?

H4's are a dual filament globe with low and high beam components. The high beam side (that assists the H1 dedicated high beam bulb) hardly ever dies, but the low-beam side nearly always is the first one to go.
Short answer, new bulb = fixed.

Mr.Hardware is right, although with the NC i suggest taking the globe out first, all listings say it's a H4, but some have another H1, did one the other day, confused me!

obviously the real easy way of checking if it's the bulb it to just swap them!!!

Haha fair enough, sorry, then yeh Mr.Hardware is right, it has both filaments on the H4 globe. Thats the one you need to change.

Ahh the trusty H4, had mine half break, so when you turn it on its off, but then you give it a whack and then it comes on. but hey, that side has been weird forever...
im still wondering how the bracket holding it in was broken into 5 or so odd peices without nobody touching it...

Thats because it's how the filaments in the bulbs break.
Obviously light is created by resistance of electrical current through the wire inside the bulb. This resistance created heat, and we all know that when metal is constantly heated and cooled it becomes more brittle. This, when going over bumps, can cause a crack in the spiralled filament which breaks the circuit. Sometimes, giving the headlight a smack will make one side of the broken filament jump onto the other and make contact. This is only good for so long until you drive over another bump which dislodges it, breaking the connection and meaning no light for you.

Yup, its like a warning system that lets you know you gotta go buy yourself a new bulb..that is if you're sombody that attempts to fix things by applying sudden blunt force to the problem
