Wow what a story just sat and watched the doco and heaps of utube movies, anyone else seen this ?
On June 15, 1957, a new gold and white 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe was buried in a time capsule in downtown Tulsa, OK. The time capsule was part of Golden Jubilee Week: Tulsa's celebration of Oklahoma's semi-centennial. KRMG radio in Tulsa reported Wednesday morning that the 50-year-old time capsule that contains a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere had “several feet” of water around the car when the vault’s lid was opened during preliminary excavations. The station reported that workers are removing out the water using sump pumps. That is discouraging news regarding the Belvedere’s condition. However, the Tulsarama organizers in 1957 also enshrouded the vehicle with a waterproof wrap. Whether that wrap held up over the subsequent five decades probably won’t be publicly known until the vehicle is finally unveiled Friday night. UPDATE: The Tulsa World reports there are “indications that the car has been submerged,” which means that the water in the vault has inundated the vehicle more than once. UPDATE2: Here is a set of photos from mylesj, who was there Wednesday morning when the vault lid was removed. You can see that the car is still wrapped, but water marks on the inside of the vault show it’s probably been covered a number of times over those 50 years. UPDATE3: Here’s a short video of when the vault lid was taken off and the water pumped out. The video is available in QuickTime or Windows Media. |

I watched it live when they pulled her out. Still facinates me. Last I heard was they were preserving the car but everything seemed to disappear off the internet about it's current state.

I've never seen that before, a massive shame it got water logged. I'd say someone is going to restore it though. Body looked pretty good - didn't see any rust? just a deteriorated interior and filthy everything
