New Weber

Howdy, i have a new 32/36 DGV-5A weber sitting at home ready to go on my 1980 panelvan. Its a 1600, 4 speed . Its fitted with the standard carb at the moment. Is it just a matter of removing the old 1 and sticking the new 1 on or is it not that simple? Will it fit straight onto the standard intake manifold? Can you get adaptors for this or do i need a different manifold? Any help will greatly reduce swearing when its time to swap.

im more than happy to be corrected but i believe the standard was a single barrel and uses a different manifold to the 2 barrel 32/36

You can't fit a Weber to the standard 1600 manifold. There's 2 types of factory manifolds that will allow the Weber fitment. First choice would be the "Ghia" manifold as that has the cable mounting bracket lugs cast on the manifold. This manifold makes the accelerator cable/linkage a straight swap, and also suilts the DG primary and secondary set up.
The second choice is the "GT" manifold off a MK1. This manifold hasn't got the cable mounting lugs and requires some custom work to fit the cable linkage. It also isn't the best set upfor a DG, more suited to the DF series as the primary and secondary are in the opposite position. You can easily identify this manifold with it's casting of the FoMoCo logo and no mounting lugs as stated above.

This is the manifold you need. It's the "Ghia" version.

This is a manifold that i got with the weber on it. Had the carb fully rebuilt. My van has a manual choke set up which i kept with on the rebuilt carb. It fits on the manifold, but judging by the pics, will it fit on my van?

Nope. That's a 2ltr manifold.

Be careful when looking for the "Ghia" manifold as usually people advertise it as a "GT" manifold as the "GT" manifold is harder to obtain. Just look at the eBay link below. That is NOT the FoMoCo casting "GT" manifold but the seller is listing it as one. The Weber is a GT item though.

Thanks heaps 870. Cleared things up alot. Judging by the rust around the water journal its not worth selling? Bin it? How readily available are the ghia manifolds? I'm on the sunshine coast in qld. Not much around here

you could also use an early GT manifold as well as 870 says, and yes the one on ebay is not a GT manifold as it has the later model bracket for the throtle linkage, the early GT had the throttle linkage on the rocker cover
