Default When they say to good to be true?

As some of you know i'm selling my AU classic. (see link in sig)
Wanting $9,000 for it. Which many of you believe i have no chance of getting

Iv already tried to be scammed via Ebay/Paypal. And thinking this was going the same way. Still think it could be.

Ill post the short email conversation. Yes short (first odd thing)

Hagins Brown
I saw your AD and i will like a quick sales bcos am buying it as a gift for someone special ,so it will be picked up by an agent to be shipped the my destination and i will perfer the payment to be through paypal ,i will like to know how much you are will to sell your car to me.get back to me ASAP

note: i don't really know how much this car cost , thats why i can't make an offer.

Me

Ok, I am after $9000. Paypal takes a small percent of money being
deposited into the paypal account. So that is why i don't want to
accept paypal payment. Quick sale can be arranged with a bank deposit.

Thanks for your inquiry. Let me know what you think.
Thanks.

Hagins Brown

Thanks for the mail and i will like to know the present condition of the car. how much you are willing to sell it to me cos i am buying the car as a gift for my dad and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want the car to be a surprise for my dad so i wont let him know anything about the car until it gets delivered to him , i am sure he will be more than happy with the car.I will paying direct to your bank accoutn , i will need you to give me your account details so i can make the payments asap for the car,i have a pick up agent that will come and pick the car up after i have made the payments.

Thanks and God Bless.

Me

I'm after $9,000 and i'm only going to accept bank deposit or cash on pick up.

Hagins Brown

ok mate , bank transfer is ok... let me know when you are ready..

Get back to ASAP

------------------------------------------------------------------------

SO... never asked a question about the car as in additional information.

If a bank transfer of 9,000 is made into my bank, there is no way this can be un-done by him?

Id have to make sure the transfer was complete, done, and confirmed by commonwealth before this "agent" picks up the car.

Like i said, sounds too good to be true

but providing the bank deposit is made, its cleared and i hand the keys over all will be good?
Doesn't the car have to have the owners names changed over at vic-roads??

Any help much appreciated

... i just re-read his emails.. there is no way this is legit.. thoughts?

1. They're all marine engineers
2. Bank deposits can't be charged back as your bank will have the power to refuse it although if he is using a stolen account the account owner can take you to court and you have no car and no money

surprised it wasn't arranged through European union or whatever that dodgy transfer place is called lol

Its a scam I was selling a camper trailer and had a Email nearly the same.. I told them to go to ebay and they can pay through pay pal that way but like I expected he didn't

Here is the email i got

Thanks for the prompt response.. I am ready to buying it now for birthday gift for brother in-law and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want it to be a surprise for brother in-law so i wont let him know anything about it until it gets delivered to him, i am sure he will be more than happy with it. I insisted on paypal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address and the price so i can make the payments asap for it and pls if you don't have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com.au and get it set up, after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through. I have a pick up agent that will come and pick it up after i have made the payments...

Thanks
Cheers Lewy

SCAM.

I got one of those a while back nearly word for word and I replied that no matter which way the money was sent I wasn't handing over the keys till the money was cleared in my bank account. I never heard from them again.

Well if you give him your bank details to deposit money in, He cant do anything with those details other then put money int your account. Make sure he puts AUS dollars in. If you do try and go threw with it, Make sure the money is in first and him not saying the money is in the bank but when I receive the item the money gets put into your account.
I had that once on ebay, I was selling a Wii. He said he is buying it for is grandson and he was an engineer in another country blah blah. He said the money has been taken to the bank and when you give me the tracking number the money gets put in. Once the post office has the item you cant get it back. And he gave me this receipt... Witch looked quiet real lol. But the bank didn't exist haha.

Definitely scam,

I have a friend who is an avid hotrod enthusiast when he sells his cars regardless of whether its $5000.00 or $50,000.00 he always insists on cold hard cash.

Cash talks all languages and unlocks all doors and it also confirms the buyer is serious.

Scam.

When my s-i-l was selling his GTS on carsales he had a similar email from an "oceanist" with the same criteria. No interest in car details and his agent would pick it up etc etc.

Forget it, ain't gonna happen.

this is obviously a scam but what do they do with the goods ie. the au, do they have a chop shop in every suburb ,what do they do with camper trailer. they wouldn't be organised to have car transporter pick up etc. has anybody been further with scam do they ask for cash at the end, because how could large, easily traced goods be good for anything

There is no exchange of money or goods. My s-i-l strung the oceanist along and it got to the point where it was all happening (not) when lo and behold the agent who was coming to pick the car up could not afford the plane tickets and my s-i-l was asked to Western Union $1000 to him so that the deal could go ahead.

If you're a moron, $1000 to make an asking price of $30K + the $1K back when the money is put into your bank acoount sounds pretty good.

Shame all you manage to do is lose the $1000.

Is there any way of stringing him along and getting the authorities involved so they can "get" him/them?

There are definitely ways to "string them along" basically for a laugh/revenge more than getting them in trouble with the law...

I'm not recommending anyone string them along, but it can be absolutely GOLD.

Have a look at this forum/website. I particularly liked the story of the "Anus Laptops."

Yea told him virtually that, no reply.
Starting to think ebay was a bad idea just because of the crap you get.

They're all scams. It's part and parcel of selling a car on eBay or carsales unfortunately.

I wouldn't give any personal details to someone unless you know they are a real person living in this country.

As for the price of your car, you can set any price you like but at the end of the day, it's the buyer's who will choose whether or not to buy the car. It's a tough time to sell cars, especially when BA XR6s can be bought for $9000 - $12000. Good luck with it all though!
