Police Minister apologises for car accident DAVID ROOD
August 10, 2010 - 1:02PM

Police Minister Bob Cameron has apologised after causing a car accident that injured the driver of the other vehicle and left both cars with major damage.

The accident occurred at 8.10am, when the car Mr Cameron was driving entered an intersection on the Old Calder Highway near Elphinstone, about an hour north of Melbourne.

The female driver of the other car suffered leg injuries, but she and Mr Cameron were not seriously injured. The 34-year-old Kyneton woman was taken to Bendigo Hospital.

"It was my fault and I feel terrible," Mr Cameron said.

"I wasn't careful enough and this is the result - I know that intersection well and didn't look carefully enough."

Mr Cameron was issued with an on-the-spot fine of $239 and three demerit points for failing to give way at an intersection. He’s apologised to the female driver.

A spokesman for Mr Cameron said the minister was on his way to work and was driving an ‘‘electorate’’ car when the accident happened.

Electorate cars are funded by the Parliament and all MP have access to one.

He said Mr Cameron arrived at a corner to cross a highway before continuing on the other side of the road.

He had to veer to the left to cross into a break in the median strip and then veer right from that point to continue over the highway onto the road he wanted to drive down.

Light rain was falling at the time of the collision, with some fog about. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage.

Funny that they call them accidents, given that they happen by accident.

Just because he is a figure of authority, doesn't mean he pulls on a cape!

Are they going to blame the car on this?

Just the way the NSW cops are blaming the Rangers and the Rodeos for them rolling over?

This wouldn't even hit the papers if it was Joe average. My mate was in a worse collision, wrote off his EL and a new VE berlina in the hills, injured himself his missus and the driver of the VE...I checked in the paper, nothing...

Given there was light rain and some fog, chances are he was speeding just not exceeding the speed limit. Of course as the politicans keep telling us thats not how it works there's a magic number on a sign and if your under it you're a safe driver

He has already received a penalty notice for careless driving and fail to give way I think. I think seeing him admit fault on the news was the first time I have seen sideshow bob actually speak.
