Guys way back in the early 90's i attempted to do great ocean road, from adelaide....in one day!
we went via mt gambier. i seem to remember that from warnanbol, there was a sign there stating the 'beginning of the great ocean road'. i recon it was hours before anything half decent was noticed, by then it was getting dark, so by the time we got to LORNE etc, it was pitch black and couldnt see anything. we had to go back from geelong during the next day to see what we missed. am i correct in stating that the only good stuff to see, scenery wise is from torquay to apollo bay?

The best driving is from Lorne to Lavers Hill. The best bits to see is after Lavers Hill. Loch Ard Gorge, Gibsons Steps, 12 Apostles, Bay Of Islands, Johanna Beach just to name a few...

jphanna,
Avoid the weekend...every idiot and his missus is out there then. Buy fuel in Geelong or Warnambool. On the GOR it is much more expensive. Watch for Police cars and speed traps. A favourite place these days for the revenue raisers. Ahhhh...have a great trip? Peter. |

Fuel in Lorne isn't too bad, Apollo Bay and Pt Campbell will make you want to cry... Traffic is a ***** if people refuse to use the slow vehicle turn outs... otherwise it can flow nicely...
