Just curious of people's experience with longevity of Focus brake rotors - my folks have a 2007 Focus with 30,000km. Just a week out of warranty. Dealer says front pads and rotors need replacing in about 3,000km.
Is it normal for the rotors to need replacing after only 30,000km. In my experience with other models they should be good for around 100,000km if not more. Any chance of Ford covering these under warranty?? |

They are very soft rotors - Just changed mine at 52k.
Whatever they do, dont get ford to replace them. They will be very expensive and not last at all. Check out pricing of RDA or DBA through your local guys and will be a lot cheaper.

I just hit the 49,000 mark, and was told my rotors needed to be replaced, apparently they are very soft and wear in time with your brakes, or so the ford service guy told me..
Well, my rotors where still rather thick so i got mine machined and just bought new pads. Found myself in the same situation as you, as you can see for yourself below, http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...2&postcount=10 Last edited by bseos; 31-07-2010 at 11:04 PM. |

Get a 2nd opinion.... If I had to get everything changed as recommended by one of the first service centres I was using I would be long broke.
30K out of a set or rotors? Sheesh... are they really that soft these days? If you do change them, go with something harder... rotors that need changing with the pads are far from cost effective. |

Thanks for the advice - sounds like it's common then. Well will do some searching around and see if I can get something better than the standard ford sh1te.

Just for a matter of comparison, my Mk1 (LR)'s front pads will be replaced soon @ 90k and the rotors are fine as far as I know.

The Protex rotors for our LS were $95 each. The DBA pads were $75. 500ml of DOT4 fluid $9.95.
For a total cost of $274.95 I'm not complaining. Got the rotors and pads from Auto Brake Service if your interested.

My car is an 06 model, and I was hit with changing all 4 rotors at about 38,000km by the ford service dealer. It was painful and they claim the rotors wear thin quicker on the focus's. My mistake was I had ford change them with genuine parts, so its likely to wear thin quicker again soon.. So next time I'll just user after markets by dba australia etc, and much cheaper! Ford charged me about $350 each rotor.

You generally find that most rotors and pads are changed at the same time these days and anything from 35000km's is normal although you will always have some that will last longer as highway and traffic driving is different along with auto's and manuals.
Ask for a quote outside of a dealer as there are generally a few brands available and being a consumable component i am guessing the second set are not going to come under warranty .
