Hi, I've just literally ripped out my old grey S1 Forte carpets for a full interior conversion to a black SR interior and was wondering if I should put some extra sound deadening on the floor of my car before the carpet goes back over the top of it, whether it be paint on or spray on sound deadener, sheets of it or sound deadening foam. What works the best in your experience and is value for money on a budget?

you can just go out and get Dyno mat you pretty much pay for quality at the end spend $3 get a product that doesnt really work. in saying that there are products out there on ebay and occasionly pop up in autobarn are from the main makers of top brand sound deadners just with out the logo or brand name on the sheets and is usualy half the price.
id stay away from paint on one, as its messy as helll and hard to get an even coverage same as foam it expands more and cant really get an even coverage and since its going to be under the carpet not really the best feel or look |

Anyone have any idea what Dynamat costs roughly and what sort of quantity or amount you get (and from where)?

To get the most from any sound deadening you will also need to do where the carpet goes up the fire wall, doors and behind the rear seat.

There are better products out there than dynamat. Look for something with a dimpled face as it gives better performance.
Also use aluminium tape on all the joins/edges of the sound deadening. Quote:

Dynamat was about $35 to $40 a roll from memory.

Dynamat is used to add weight to a panel to make it vibrate less, and is best used on flat panels. Highly curved panels are already very stiff and wont vibrate as easily.
Sound barriers (Mass loaded vinyl) are best to stop external sound transmission to the cabin. Normal underlay felt type stuff is probably better than Dynamat in this instance. Dynamat can be added in much smaller amounts, than generally seen, to achieve the same result. This place explains a bit about the different types of sound proofing... www.sounddeadenershowdown.com |

It's what is in the pictures before, and what I used on the inside of my ute. However what I used (770mm x 680mm section) isn't available to the public yet. They are still working out packaging for it. If needed I could get some for people, or try and sort out a group buy. The last I heard was they were going to do a 10 sheet box, that was going to be around $350/400 + gst. Cheers
