Default AU to XR front end conversion.

After a quick search in google and the forums i couldnt find a thread or write up where someone has done this.

Is there a thread where someone has done this?

Is it as simple as buying the headlights and front bar off an XR or is it more complicated?

Thanks,

Plenty on here seem to have done it, check out some build threds for the conversion.

The closest one to the top seems to be xrford's wagon might pay to ask him about it.

When i did my old ED a couple of years ago i had to buy a wireing adaptor from ford but everything else bolted up without much effort. I can't imagine the AU being any harder.

Keep at it mate she'll look awesome!

I'd PM him anyway just to check, my XR is away at the moment otherwise I'd just go outside and compare it to the other halves futura.

xr bars form ford, if they still have stock of them would be around the 2 grand mark brand new, headlights range between 100 to even 400 for just one side lmao, looms should come with the lights them self

why not opt for a ts50 kit, but you will need a series 2 bonnet, or, get the ts50 bar made with out the huge *** grill and just the lower section and keep your series 1 bonnet

Yea i dont mind the TS50 kit, Although i have seen a BF-GT kit on an AU and reckon it would look alot better IMO. But i also reckon the AU XR's are one of the best looking late model car ford produced. So we'll see.

Go aftrmarket, go to fibresports website and look at the XR50 style front bar. You will still need XR lights and loom but its much better looking then normal XR bars.

Do an advanced search, and find threads started by ronwest; he did a good write up/how to. OK, I did it for you:

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11246213

and

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11266985

All the posts above are about 90% correct; the only thing missing is the right angle bracket that is need on each side of the XR bar that the forte doesn't have - easy enough to make your own (I reckon they'd be hard to source).

Do you mean the brackets with the 6 or so holes in it?
I thought it was just for adjustment didnt think it took any weight.
Been a while since Ive had the xr though, could be wrong

Thats true too.
Whatever way you go if you are hard pressed for parts I have a L/H side bracket and lights (outside one is chipped though) that Id sell you cheap. They come up on ebay from time to time, brackets and lights for about $200 each side.
