my one, eventually, i had to give the fibre glass one back, but i made measurments etc to get it made out of stainless steel also need to get some more pipe, but i will get it done soon enough

Hey guys im new to this site just reading over people mods etc, i have a 2001 AU II XR6 running the standard airbox cleaner etc that came factory built, with the air intake pipe between the bonnet and the body of the car. Would changing that to a pod increase performance a noticeable amount or is it not worth the hassle.

Out of curiosity I did the AU1.5 VCT Ghia to see if it really made a difference. Being a cheap, tight, stingy bugga and not a big fan of Pod filters I figured I could do it really cheap while not having if flopping around under the bonnet - heres how I did it -
Remove airbox lid and solid pipe from flexi pipe. Remove rubber adaptor from the air box lid, screw down to a piece of timber, run a 3" (75mm) hole saw through it. clean up saw cut and remount onto airbox lid. Get a 45 degree alloy 3" pipe - cut exactly half way around the bend. Insert into adaptor with a slight upward angle. Look down the solid pipe form the flexi pipe end - you will see a definate point where the taper from 55mm to 80mm ends - cut off the pipe at this point and throw away the small end (the bit that used to plug into the airbox). smooth out the seam ridges on the outside of the intake pipe (you will see what I mean) to make sure the silicone pipe can seal. Stretch some 3" (75mm) silicone pipe over the outside of the rigid pipe - its tight but it can be done. Slip other end over the alloy pipe in the airbox, clip airbox lid back on, slip flexi hose back on, bolt down intake pipe to original mount over left hand shockie - pivot alloy pipe around until you get good smooth angles when mounted, tighten clamps. All done using 1 45 degree pipe, a 75mm clamp and some silicone hose (don't need to use that much, just what I could scrounge and havn't gotten around to trimming down yet... The partial (ie still using flat panel filter) conversion I have done has not increased the induction noise, lets the VCT spin a little more freely and holds hwy speeds with marginally less throttle angle with no apreciable reduction in lower range torque (by my highly scientific bumometer anyway) - as to fuel economy it will take a few weeks to guage that. Will tidy it up if I decide to leave it on. Cheers James |

My AU111 XR8 motor in a Mustang
Custom stainless intake made by building a box on to fit on top of the lower intake manifold. Took all the sensors off the origional intake and put them in similar places, kept the intake runners the same length as the origional. My theory was the intake is only an air delivery box, not an air/fuel delivery so providing the airflow and temp sensors can take the right readings then the intake can be any shape you want it to be. Well i joined the 3 inch club today :P No Pun intended
$9 from my work (supercheap) for a 76mm piece of intercooler pipe. Bargain!! Some Silicon and a hose clamp later and shes done. Here are the pictures: I'm also flying the LPG flag GasOlane Cheers Jason

I have also put a three inch pipe in today on my AU II. and i fitted a pod filter in the stock Airbox,
i'll send pics soon once i know how. first i put the 3 inch stainless steel pipe, noticed a small improvment in throttle response. then i put the pod filter in the Stock Airbox the next day not much differance but little better, i am using a cheap pod for now will get K&N pod filter in the next couple of days thanks for the ideas everyone SILVA |

Cost me way too much SS bigmouth, 3" tubing, Lukey Air filter. And it's dual fuel

About 230 i think. And pretty sure that would include a few hours of labour and the filter. SS bigmouth was the most costly thing out of all of it

Just normal exhuast pipe. Yeah certainly was pricey, but being single with little expenses it's ok with me. Only problem is it does touch the fluffy stuff under the bonnet, and will be fun trying to get the filter out with no flexible parts.
