Yep .. I'd be one of the people who'd buy the a "cooking" 5.3L V8 .. just 'cos it was a V8 and I'd tow with it. It would still be enough to PO the 4x4/SUV drivers at the lights so I'd be happy
[ Be nice if they put it in a lighter car though .. maybe 1400kg? ] |

if holden do bring out a turbo 6, will ford update their engines in order to have a performance advantage? or will they just cop out in the performance stakes again?

Don't forget, Holden's powertrains are between 50-100kg lighter than Ford's. Not looking for a ****ing contest, just putting a different spin on the VE's perceived weight issue.

As to still being hope for Holden there is none. People who work on VE prototypes have clearly stated that the VE is heavier than the VZ. But you don't have to believe me. Just book mark this thread and wait for when VE is released during 2nd half of 2006. All will be revealed. FF |

Holden Chairman Denny Mooney is quoted in todays Sun as saying:
"fuel costs have caused a rethink of the VE's final Performance mix" "our mindset today is different to what it was 12 months ago. For a while everyone wanted performance which mean't taller gear ratios and engine displacements more geared towards performance, Now the swing is towards economy" "were still playing around with gear ratios and other things to optimise fuel economy" "Were already working on Diesel as an insurance policy" If thats not the biggest clue to the future i dont know what is.... Is there a smaller V8 in their range than 5.3??? :

It looks like logically Holden associate large capacity with perfromance and smaller capacity with economy... The qeuestion now is what size 8 will they go back to? |

Wow a turn of the time's, Ford is lucky they now have the 6spd auto and the 5.4 with modern technology, all they need to do is work on the weight issue of the vehhicle.

I think they're going to inadvertantly face a credability issue with allot of their customers due precedance set by continually pushing the limit of capacity and KW outputs, its hard to see how they're going to be able to maintain either under the current climate and from signals of "back peddling" their Execs are giving off. Fords slow, sometimes concervative and methodical approach to design and product updates may very well see them positioned to not only maintain its current range format but gain even more market share!

Does this mean the SV8 is no more? Could be big news for budget rocket drivers. Understandable though.
