Default Another case of a low act....

Attacker tried to strangle nurse with stethoscope

The victim's friend say the attacker tried to strangle the woman with her stethoscope.

Police are investigating the indecent assault of a nurse at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne's east.

The assault happened in a stairwell at the hospital earlier this week.

A friend of the victim told the ABC the attacker tried to strangle the nurse with her own stethoscope and indecently assaulted her.

The hospital's chief executive, Brendan Murphy, says staff have been shocked by the attack.

"[It was] very early in the evening when lots of visitors were around, so the police are working with us to do our best to identify this offender," he said.

Dr Murphy says Austin Health is reviewing security at the hospital after the "unexpected and brazen" incident.

"Hospitals, as you know, are very public places and after about 8:00pm we lock down, so only people can get in with good reason or with passes," he told ABC Radio's Jon Faine.

"This was during normal business hours really, during early evening. And you can't lock down a hospital at that time."

Dr Murphy says the hospital has a large number of security cameras but there were none in the stairwell where the woman was attacked.

He says they are helping police review the security camera footage in other public areas.

"There's lots of people coming in and we've got to balance access versus security. It's always a challenge," he said.

He says the nurse has been traumatised by the incident.

"She's taking some leave but is very keen to come back to work as soon as possible," he said.

"It was a very upsetting experience for her and for her work colleagues."

C'mon Australia, get behind it. Well ...in front of it, behind is for the low life scum. Except in this guys case, these stocks should be in a prison, a part of the prison where there are no cameras.
