I paid $1900 for my XE fairmont running a 351 clevo with decent rego
For $7K I would be looking at a EL XR6 or something similar. The series 2 EF Fairmont Ghia's are nice. I have one lol. Leather, power everything and full XR6 running gear. You could also go a decent AU. Best mate got his AU with 70,000kms for $3000 and it goes and feels like a brand new car. AS others have said BA's go cheap at auction too.

Hey gang, thanks for all the tips. Since some of you have asked, I'll let you know the kind of stuff I'm looking for.
I do a lot of freeway driving so stuff like Cruise is a must. I like the comfort stuff too like elec windows, so an old Ford isn't really high on the agenda. I'd also prefer something on gas as I've had enough of paying 1.43pl for premium... SERIOUSLY HAD ENOUGH! I've had EL and BA Fairmonts, and I'd be happy anywhere in or around there. I checked out a EB Fairmont with super low k's, but it was just too old for me. Ever since I was 16 or 17 I wanted to get an Escort and strip it back to nothing, and rebuild it to teach myself about cars but like someone suggested that's better done in MY driveway. The 1991 EB suggested on CarSales - Having seen a Fairmont of that era I decided that while I loved the EB I had, it just looks a little too dated now The 1998 AU XR8 suggested on TradingPost - Is good, however it's a long way from me on the Victorian Mornington Peninsula and then I've gotta pay for a LPG change too. Thanks for the suggestions though, I appreciate it along with all the comments. It's been great to join the community and be so well helped straight away. I'm sure Holden forums wouldn't have been like that... Hahaha For those wondering, I'm selling my 2009 LX Captiva with 21,000kms for $35,500. It's been a great car to be honest, and were I not needing to find my own place I'd have kept it for a long time I imagine. |

Considered an AU Fairlane? A brilliant car for the money. Something you would want to keep for years.

I'd never really considered a Fairlane, only because I was under the impression that they are an 8 and I'm trying to reduce costs by going to a 6 on gas

Yeah I just had a look at some on carsales and to be honest I'm not a fan of the LWB. Inside they look the same as a Fairmont Ghia, so I think I'd like one of those more. Thanks for the suggestion though, that's what this thread is all about

I would probably go for a series 2 or 3 au fairmont ghia. you could also buy a ba falcon but for that money it will have more kays and wear than the au. How on earth does someone brings themselves to the thought of owning a holden badged daewoo. You will be punished severely for you misdemeaner of buying the holdenwoo, to the point of at least 10k if your lucky. We all learn by our mistakes, well the smart ones do . Anyway good luck with it, let us know how you go.

Hahahahaha I know Dave289, I understand that I will be punished... I should have never defected but come on... the Territory wasn't do itself any favors... lol
JimmyD the tricked out price dropper seems dodgy... Someone named Patricia is selling the car and her son is the contact??? Seems more like Dom selling the car for someone else or just trying to hype is finance company. Also given the price drop I wonder how bad this car has been thrashed. The fairmont looks nice but it's hard to deny this http://bit.ly/c19Dsz I'm going to call them now actually... I'll report back in a minute with the story |

It's a 2004 Futura. Standard 16" alloys (going soon), in a unique light blue with just a touch of purple in it. No tint, not dumped... REALLY REALLY stock right now. I'm annoyed with the way Ford did their stereo's in this model, because running a custom system is going to be a painful move.
