It definitely an EA1 Ghia. EA Ghias always looked about 10x classier than every other EA with the colourcoded bumpers and mirrors, and turboblade wheels. Shame because that looks to have been one of the tidier EAs out there.

Years ago, I brought an EA ex-taxi. It had 720,000km on the clock. I drove it for about 30,000km and cooked the motor. I thought a exchange gem engine would be a good idea , as machining costs on a rebuild might be expensive on an engine that used, reboring oval conrods, etc,etc. Before I sent the taxi motor off I thought to take a look at the main bearings, and to my surprize it had ford july 1988 stamped into the outside of the bearing shell. Thought 750,000km on original bearing was pretty good.

I just finished stripping some gear out of one and had it hoisted on a truck today, chain through the front windows to lift it. I was waiting for the roof to crush, screen to pop, nope, just buckled the tops of the doors a little. Tough as nails.

That only means they were made in 88??? Could have been fitted in 2008 or whatever. If that means anything at all about production date, Im not sure.

I see your point fmc351, my memory of it was the bearing date was close to built date. It was a good old bus.

Compared to a VN, the EA was a Diamond.
It was just weird that given such long development time, they failed to get so many things right until about the EB2.

Clearly not an EA.. it says 'stolen vehicle' and we all know EA's are an impenetrable forcefield of anti-theft security. Possibly stolen from some old dear's driveway using a pair of scissors and a gum leaf. I also recall an EA being used to yank an ATM out of a wall about 5 years ago. ATM-1 EA-0

Ah. I miss my old EA Ghia. One of few factory manuals and the lovely blue interior.

Never had any head gasket issues on it either, despite it overheating many times due to dodgy hoses!
