Default Larry Ormsby 1969 XW GTHO still lives.

We got a member in our GT Club who owned an XW GTHO, which he knew must of had some racing history, but couldn't quite figure out which touring car it once was.

Eventually he found out what racing history it had, and has undergone an extensive rebuild. It certainly is different to the usual Moffat etc tourers that most people see.

It's the original Larry Ormsby B/S record holder.

Larry Ormsby himself has had some input in the car, so I guessing he verified it, along with others.
The owner of the car has now purchased the original tow truck that used to tow this XW around, so that will also undergo a resto..

I love seeing cars with previously unknown history come out. Looks tough with the big slicks on the back

From what i recall, the rear guards had been modified to accomadate the taller slicks they ran, that was the main identification item, along with papers. I remember seeing the car on its first outing at Calder, awesome find. Ormsby's mechanic "Russell The Rascal" became Calders main commentator for a number of years. Ormsby had Ford backing, but was a "back door" type of sponsorship.

Yeah the rear guard bit is mentioned on the sign in the above photo, half way down, and yes, apparently to clear the slicks.

I remember when Mark, the owner, telling me when he found out it was Ormsby's car, after searching for a fair while thinking it was an ex tourer. The rear guards had him stumped, because he could never find any historic info on any touring cars which had this mod done.
Then the Larry Ormsby thing came up.
