Central QLD flood

Hi all

I am supposed to be driving from Brisbane to Rocky Monday, then out to Blackwater and Emerald tuesday and wednesday respectively. Any local knowledge at this point of whether i'd get through as we speak, and what the forecast is for the rest of the week. I'll be making the call Monday night on whether i bother heading west or just head home. And i wont be in a 4x4.

i havent heard today but i know that the road west was cut at Dingo yesterday.

you should get to rocky ok but best give the cops a ring before heading west. i think the rain is supposed to be clearing a bit so it might be all runn down by then.

watch out for the small sections of tar between the pot holes,

i'm stuck in emerald at the moment. no roads are open in any direction. i don't think anything will be open until wednesday or thursday at this stage.

Yes i understand a lot of roads are still closed. Know a few miners who had to stay a few extra days - however did get a flight out yesterday. Contact RACQ or local police for recent updates just prior to your drive.

the RACQ road conditions website is hopeless.... anywhere from 12-24 hours late.....

not too sure on access to emerald from the south via springsure, guessing its cut though

access to emerald from the north is via the gemfields and capella as of this afternoon, but the main road in from the north is supposedly going to be open again tomorrow afternoon...... dont hold your breath

comet river halfway between blackwater and emerald is over the road and is expected to stay that way for a couple of days

beef road north of dingo is closed, from what i've heard a bridge has been washed away

you *may* be able to get from rocky to blackwater, but honestly, i'd try to postpone your trip for a couple of weeks....

as for phoning the police, the emerald boys are run off thier feet and the rocky callcentre wouldnt be able to find thier own butts with both hands and a GPS......

If your keen go up the coast and across to clermont mate went through last night. I live in moranbah ,and had to be back at work today no water at all up this way ,and as said don't bother with racq useless .some storms about but most creeks go down as quick as they come up ,its mainly the major rivers on the beef road that cause the drama .there is a hotline number to call that's on the radio at the moment if I hear it again I will put it up .

You can get to rocky and blackwater mate at the moment but believe from blackwater to emerald is cut but may be ok in a few days weather permitting. Yes gotta watch the potholes though they are shockinga nd everywhere.

thanks guys, made it to rocky, blackwater and emerald and multiple trips between all week no probs (except the lack of accommodation in blackwater), sure is a fair bit of water sitting beside the capricorn highway in some spots, will be an interesting week.

as a side note, heading south via biloela-gayndah-gympie is a far better drive than the bruce highway, still a pretty rough road in places but fewer trucks, nowhere near the amount of campers and knobs towing caravans at 80km/h and i didnt see one police car the whole trip home.
