OK, now for something completely different.
Those of you who are avid fans of aviation check out the links to the official airbus reports and illustrations of the damages. http://www.flight.org/blog/download/...e-Overview.pdf There's a second report with panel part numbers etc which can be downloaded here: http://www.flight.org/blog/download/...ingtopskin.pdf These links also provide pictures of the damaged wing spar.

couple of things ,, i`m not a big fan of qantas and its outsourcing i`m not gonna rehash 7 pages of this thread but fair go ? I think they dealt with it fairly well considering the problem seems to fall back on r/r and to a lesser extent airbus.

they still carry out at least 80% of their heavy maintenance in Australia, most of the jumbo's get checks done in avalon and the 767/A330's in hangar 3 in brisbane. They have done it this way for yonks. Im former maintenance engineer, my father is career licensed maintenance engineer. The unions keep dropping the overseas story to the media as leverage, there is quite a few EBA's being tabled/due/in the courts around the airline at the moment and its become a very ugly war between the airline and its employees. Particularly here in brisbane with the qantaslink engineers, soon to be followed up by the domestic terminal engineers, maybe even the international guys are up soon too.
What used to tick us off as maintenance guys here in australia, is when a plane would come back from overseas maintenance to sit in a hangar in sydney for a few days so that any works not completed/done poorly were rectified.

it will be interesting to see how this turns out, if they can only have 80 people on their main hop , then what is the alternative, will they give the Rolls engines the kyber pass and fit different engines that will do the job?

Nah, once its a rolls, it stays a rolls. They keep them on the deck until they can permit them to fly with a full payload of pax, and sue rolls for much money.

Damn... The media has been jumping on aviation related issues since the istory broke.
I wish they would give it a rest... Failures happen all the time... its just the severity that changes... And fair enought this A380 was a near disaster.... If the newpapers jumped on every incident that our military aircraft have, there would be a daily section for it in the newspapers!

Is it true that this aircraft was that badly damaged that it's been totally written off?
AND ending up as a museum piece in Singapore?

i doubt it - Qantas have a habit of putting airframes back in the air because a airframe loss turns it from an incident to an accident
I have read it could be a 73 million dollar repair bill though, and ultimately it's up to the insurers.

i'd say at this point the post about the LAME's from Australia rotation monthly in SIN would be the most correct, and if a scrapping were to happen, then it would more than likely be bought by airbus/RR therefore solving Qantas' issue of scrapping it themselves. Reading that back however makes it seem pretty far fetched.
