Default Xr6 Oil pressure gauge shenanigans

Over the last couple of days my oil pres gauge has been playing up, never going any lower than normal but a couple of times it's been buried well into the red at the top end of the gauge. Nothing else seems to be different while it's doing this so I've got no idea.
Experiences and opinions welcome.

im having beeping noises that indicate oil pressure , but my oil pressure switch is disconnected . maybe you have a faulty unit , improper earthing or a slight blockage of the pressure switch , unscrew and check to see if any foreign object is obstructing the tiny hole , if nothing time for a new switch . cheers.

It's got 300000km so the sender might have given up, I just want some options before I go forking out the coin.

A bit of oily grime, or a loose connection, will cause a poor electrical connection at the sender which sends the gauge to maximum deflection.
