Default 2l problem

has anyone had there timing belt want to slip off i have put a mild crow cam in it new belt new spring and tensioner the engine feels tighter then it should when turning it over i dont have my cam spec sheet anymore and was thinking valve clearances might be wrong they have been set to the same as a stock cam which a mechanic told me to do but i was thinkning maybe they should be different?

for a timing belt to want to slip off means that something isnt lined up correctly, definately check the cam tensioner even loosen it off a bit.
unless you have a vernier camm wheel and can dial the cam in I would also suggest you will need to set it to the std position then turn the motor over by hand to check for clearance, most mild cams work on the standard locations

Not sure if you can fit the camshaft drive cog around the wrong way (back to front), but check that it's oriented correctly.

yeah you can fit it the wrong way, checked that all surfaces were clean and burr free i have tried the belt loose and tight then engine seems to want to pull it off it wont come off all the way because theres a plate at the crankshaft gear stopping it so it will only come out a max of 5 mm, but obviously somethings wrong there were no markings on the belt but maybe it goes a certain way? next step i think ill pull the rocker gear and plugs out see how tight it turns over when the rocker gear is in you can not turn the engine over by hand you need a spanner...

Have you tried turning the crank and cam over seperatly to see they both feel ok without the belt?

As Puzzlescort says something must be out of alignment. Check the bearing in the idler pulley if its worn it will run the belt forward.
