Cruze is touted as a 'small' car, much the same as Corolla, Focus and Mazda 3 are.

Having said that, Cruze is a very large small car measuring in at 4.6m long.

Epica is 4.8m long.

I think you may be wrong regarding Holdens small car sales as well. Cruze is selling very well, not at the top, but certainly not near the bottom either.

Cruze is outsold Falcon almost 2 to 1 in Jan.

Cruze (28334) wasn't far off outselling Falcon (29516) in the whole of 2010. So I don't think Holden has a problem selling small cars.

If you look at the last 12 months then it is closer again - Falcon (28355) - Cruze (28176)

LENGTH:
Cruze Sedan 4597mm
2012 Focus sedan 4534mm

Wheelbase:
Cruze Sedan 2685mm
2012 Focus sedan 2648mm

That longer wheelbase looks to give more rear leg room courtesy but it's also is the reason
why Cruze is heavier than the small car competition. Cruze is almost a genuine Mid sizer
as opposed to large mid sized car like Camry, Mondeo and 6...

Maybe this is why it's scoring well in the sales race, something slightly different to the rest..

I hired a Cruze for a week and was very impressed with the size and space. Lots of rear leg room and a large boot. Was very economical as well.

Every car class is getting larger and heavier. They pop a V6 into a Camry and it is all of a sudden competition for Falcon and Commodore, leave it as a Camry and it is now a Mid sizer, even though the dimensions are practically identical.
