I knew of a bloke that used to do this years ago, But it was stuff called "Bon Ami" that was put on a teaspoon, then held over the carby, reving the motor to slowly suck it from the spoon, it seamed to stop oil consumption and smoke for a while.

DONT do it on an EFI car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
went out and tried it on the XF van before. only backfired once (dunno if it should have backfired more?) and it did make a noticeable difference when i took it for a drive.

Don't do it too manyh times, or you will do damage, but give it some throttle and let it backfire two to three times....

Makes a difference yes..... Glad it worked for you.

Well ! What an interesting thread i have created. I honestly thought my mate was having a big lend of me.

My carby is poping and farting and flat spoting (carby fire i think is the correct term) im wondering if the Ajax would solve this?

As for the banana skin in the diff i think you will find it works better with the banana only without the skin.

after this thread im also contemplating the moth balls in the fuel tank. now if i could just remember the ingredient that gives the zing then id go find a moth ball product with the most of it and whack it in the tank.
anyone remember if they used moth balls or powder on myth busters?

So do you guys think that the Ajax will also clean carbon deposits from the valves and ports etc? Or is that pushing it?

Between that and a few good backfires, yes.

You will notice the difference.

Cheers

Moth balls are made of napthalene, not sure if there are any other additives

it made the engine rev harder and more smoothly. its like it was an octane boost.
there is a thread somewhere about it. search for Myth Busters on AFF.

Currently my car suffers "carby fire" it pops loudly every so often (as well as coughs and splutters when cold). Would the Ajax make that worse or not?

Could that also be a timing issue if your carby is doing that?

Umm....Yeh....

Engines not firing on all cylinders, she can stall on take off cause of it.

Needs new plugs, points, carby overhaul and of course a check on timing! :

But i have other problems to worry about first, like getting the sound system installed :Reverend: :Reverend: :Reverend:

Sound system is very important!

But mate in seriousness - if it needs those things like you said - Ajax nor swapping leads is going to magically fix anything dude.

You are still gonna have plugs and points that are going to need replacing, timing to set, etc.
