Default Valentine’s Day Cruise

Well the second event for 2011 is over and what a great day it was despite a little rain which thankfully we managed to dodge while having morning tea and watching the bird show. After the show though the sun shone for the XR Club and we all enjoyed our bbq and picnic by the lake.

The club kids certainly had a great time feeding the ducks and deer as well as terrorising those poor black swans, mind you the swans gave as good as they got and the kids came running back pretty darn quickly when the swans turned on them. Certainly gave us all a few laughs.

I think we would all agree that the morning tea was yummy especially those mini scones, jam and cream.

The bird show was both educational and entertaining. Just to give those clubbies that weren't there an idea of how intelligent these parrots are - some clubbies in the audience were given a coin and then this particular parrot would come and take the coin from them and put it into a piggy bank. The funny thing was he would only take Australian coins not foreign ones (including New Zealand coins). This parrot would put each coin into his mouth and roll his little tongue over it, if the coin wasn't Australian he didn't want it and he wouldn't put it into his piggy bank. Now that is pretty darn clever.

I think we said to everyone that the bird show was to run for fifty minutes, well for our ten bucks Dail gave the club a very entertaining hour and a half. She is a hive of information and there is certainly no denying that she has a great love for birds. We were talking to Dail for some time after everyone left on Sunday. She had one of her parrots up on her shoulder, well you could see this parrot was just as besotted by her as she was with him. He was so fixed on her it was amazing.

Thanks to everyone that came on Sunday, the old familiar faces as well as the new. Mark and Deb, good to see you both in one piece after the floods. After the sadness of losing your beloved GT we do hope you enjoy your new ride. May you both have many happy times in it.

We had a great time on Sunday and we look forward to the next one.
