Default 20" Advanti with Accelera tyres, $2030.. good deal?

Hi guys, someone offered me brand new:

20" Advanti Vivid wheels (http://www.yhi.co.nz/newsite/media/t...08f6de0bd3.jpg)

with

ACCELERA PH1 225/35X20 93W SILICA COMPOUND TYRES

for $2030 delivered. He reckons the Accelera tyres are made in the same place as Continental tyres and are no different...

its a lot of money and haven't heard much about Accelera or Advanti...so thought I'd check with you guys on the deal and the tyres... he also said there will be no scrubbing with those dimensions (and has fitted heaps of 20" on AU-BFs before)

thanks for your help

and will any place fit/balance them (I assume they're not illegal?)

Are the wheels 20x8 or 20x8.5? If they're 8.5's go for a 245 cross section tyre. The 225 will scrub the tread on the outside pretty quick. I run 245/40 nankangs on my 20's and haven't had a problem. It's about 40mm lower than a stndard forte

yeah they're 20x8.5... he says I can go wider but will cost a lot more...

what are the pros/cons of going wider... worth the extra cash?

I paid $2500 for mine. With all tyres they have a tread wear number and it indicates how hard the compound is. A set of 16s that I've got have a 160 rating and they've done just on 40000km on the back. My nankangs have a 320 rating so that means they're harder but being 20s they'll probly wear quicker. I'm expecting upto 50000km from them.

And wider tyres look better to.

I have Advantis and they didn't come with hub adapters, to match the Ford AU hub exactly. It led to balance issues (vibrating steering wheel) with outthem, so make sure it will fit the small hub center to "fit on" properly or get the hub adapter things.

Ask for hub locators they will either be plastic or alloy. Most aftermarket wheels use them. You wonthave a problem with standard suspension mines lower tthan xr spec and I don't scrub. Iam very careful with drive ways and similar but.

Might be an idea to get longer wheel nuts as with those advanti rims...the lock nut is near impossible to get off with the lock nut tool without burring the thread if they use the rattle gun.

Cost me $80 for the longer nuts.

Tell them you will cut their nuts off if they use a rattle gun. Lazy kents them boys at the tyre service.

Mine have already done 15 and still look brand new. Maybe you should talk to your wheel alinment guy.

i have the highest performance wheel and tyre combo, factory 16" alloys! I can drive over anything and hardly feel it! and still get 60thou out of a set.

thanks a lot for the info guys, am close to saying yes... but then I read about the 2" rule and my tyre placard says R17, meaning legally I can only go a maximum of 19"?

so does that mean everyone with 20s are driving illegal cars?

Damn... that is annoying, the mag type I want are only available in 20" >:E

well there were AU's released with 18's as standard. t-series cars, xr8 rebels i think had 18's?

so technically yes 20's are legal, but if your placard says 17????

you could always go get a BA placard and stick it over the top

*DISCLAIMER* BUT THAT IS ALSO ILLEGAL AND I WOULD ADVISE AGAINST DOING THAT

Mine is an AUII Futura, Sep2000...

lol... tempting... do cops really pull you up over an inch here and there? I guess if you get a bastard... and insurance purposes I guess is iffy also?

I could get a fine black marker and turn a 17 into an artistic 18! :P

At the end of the day the cops usualy leave you alone unless you drive like a dick.

My cars DC red, full series 1 tickford body kit with the bi plane spoiler and my 20s are gold with a chrome lip and I've never had any more than a random breath test.

Legality depends which state you're in too, as there are subtle variations in the rules. e.g. circumference vs diameter.

All depends how you define performance doesn't it. It's true that 20s are crap to drive on, more noise and you need to be very careful with pot holes, but I wouldn't define 16s as a performance size wheel on a falcon. Maybe on a small to mid size car but not a falcon. If you wanted the best balance of handleing and ride comfort you would want a 17, just enough side wall to cope with the bumps but not distort excesivly when cornering.

There must be a reason why they still run them on the super cars.
At the end of the day 20s look good and that's about it.

Were you able to get the longer advanti wheel nuts from anywhere ? or bought specially ?

I just got a set of cheap 5 spoke black and silver 19" mags for the XF but the nuts are not long enough for the studs. You cannot tighten them up all the way which sucks. But boy do they look HUGE.

And man do the 35mm spacers now seem really obvious...lol

Accelera tyres, the ones you mention are made in Indonesia

Ask the tyre shop where the Continental sport contact 2 are made,

Then tell him to stop talking bull dust and gtfo..

For what it's worth I had them tyres prior to fitting Pzero nero's in 20's on my car

And they were good, BUT.......

They were returned under warranty as they were faulty, the rear tyres would keep going flat, turns out the just wouldn't sit nicely on the rim due to being cheap made indonesian crap, and as I happen to know my tyre guy well, he gave me the nero's for not much more and said this is not the first set of these accelera tyres that's had this problem...

Problems aside, they gripped reasonable, were ok in the wet, and weren't too bad noise wise, in that size they are only worth 200 a corner, I got 275 pirellis for 300 each... So for bugger all more I got a really decent tyre

**edit just realized the op is about 2 years old, but information on the accelerate tyres is still valid, they are a copy of the csc2 tyres, but aren't an exact copy, a parallel import big brand tyre is not much more and loads better if performance is what your after
