Sweet. Glad I have waited and have not put down any cash for one yet. I'll wait for the new engine methinks.

Ring Ford and annoy them, they refuse to talk to me.The new Peugeot 508 is getting the very same engine in June, spoke to a person that went to the launch of the 508 and he told me its one mother of an engine with 450Nm of torque and 0-100Km/h in 8 secs hopefully Ford Oz will come to their senses and match the 2.2L to the EcoBoost

Still think its p.i.s.s weak of Ford doing this after the launch of the MC should have told people so that they can choose which engine they want and plan when they would or could upgrade especially those like Dusty on lease plans

Sorry for asking anything that may sound stupid, but doesn't this just instantly devalue all the current diesel MC's? Why would most regular car buyers buy a diesel if the petrol version can get the same fuel economy? Unless the Ecoboost is likely to be even more expensive than the diesel. If it isn't then the diesel MC I'm picking up tomorrow has already lost value and I haven't even driven it out of the car yard yet.

Looks like I'm going to be proven wrong. From the TMR report....
Arriving in mid-2011, the updated Mondeo will be followed by the long-awaited EcoBoost Falcon
This means the EcoBoost might be on the boats next week.........+2mths equals mid-year, sorta.

I am (will be) truly surprised if this actually comes about. My money was on the other way around - Falcon then Mondeo.

What the f are Ford doing? One minute they say no Ecoboost for the Mondeo, wait for me to buy a diesel and then announce the Ecoboost???

I'd guess they've been forced into it by the factory because they don't want to make a few Mondeos each month with an obsolete drivetrain.

The diesel is still significantly more economical although it's gone up nearly 20c per litre here since I last filled up.

Mondeo is second to Camry in sales which means the Mondeo is making money for Ford Australia they are cashing in by introducing the Ecoboost NOTE no Ecoboost for wagon because they said people prefer diesels BUT people chose diesels because the 2.3l was lacking in power in the first place

apstar

ps I have come to the conclusion you don't need to be smart to get a job at Ford!

Seconded. Ford's decision makes no sense at all!
