Default Thanks Ford...

Well my old BA Mk2 just passed the 5 year mark (registered in March 06) and I recently noticed the dreaded rust patch in the RHS of boot after giving my car a full detail. I am in the process of preparing my car for sale as I am almost ready to sign for a new GS.

Anyways when I discovered the rust I felt annoyed and really dissapointed and drove to my local dealer who I haven't seen for years. I mentioned the rust and was told I had 3 days left before the 5 year corrosion warranty expired. Photos were taken and sent to Ford, I had honestly thought that Ford would say NO. I think what is most dissapointing is that I have mates and family with cars that are older than 5 years with alot less rust!

Earlier today I got a call saying the repairs are all approved by Ford and within 3 days the rust will be gone....YAY!!!!!

If Ford had said no I would have been extremly dissapointed and at the time I felt like ditching a new GS and going elsewhere. But, now the rust is being repaired and I will soon be getting my 5th Falcon!!!!

Thought I would share the good news considering all the doom and gloom around the world

Also, what can I coat this joint with in the boot to stop any new rust occuring???? Obviously it has been a common rust spot for the B series Falcons. I don't want the person who buys my car to deal with spending $$$ fixing rust...I am a fussy owner.

Not sure what you can coat the boot with...Fish oil perhaps?

Well it would be nice if there was no issue in the first place but yes, good result.

Most of the time if your patient and courteous things go your way, if your a bogan and fire up it helps nothing.

I know, the rust is a little concerning. But looking at the join where the rust formed, the paint and finish was obviously not water tight, one little crack is all it needs. Plus as most know if the car is parked with the nose pointing down hill, the water will just pond there unitl the car levels off, poor design. But Ford have stuck to their warranty and that has kept me buying a new Falcon...just hope the FG doesn't have the same issues????

I might look into coating in fish oil to help protect the joint.

As I understand FG has the same problem. But FoA can only do so much when they get half as much a budget as what Holden gets.

Half the budget? bah, poor excuse. Its quality control (lack of) and penny pinching.

Reported budget size is typically refletced in R&D costs, not simple manufacturing processes.

I'd agree on lack of quality control. But that's probably another problem from not enough cash in FoA coffers. Especially when the marketing department only turn up to get their check.

not sure where he lives but my experence is the closer the car is to the the coast the greater the rust problem

Colour does not affect the rust issue, this is a common fault across all models and colours since the BA. My BAI XR8 in citric acid and BAII GT in lightning strike both got it. Both were extremely well maintained and garaged. My BFII Typhoon in shockwave seems ok so far and the paint is still sticking to the car too.

My car is turning 18 this year. The bonnet and boot lid is fading and loosing all it's plastic like coating. Wish I could get a warranty claim on that.

Could be worse, my boss bought a new maloo in january last year and found rust in the seem of the drivers side door last month,
it's 13 months old and they won't replace the door they will only fix it

Given the flack that car dealers are copping, particularly the complaints to the ford ones particular, that is outstanding to hear they have honoured their warranty.

A good thing you did go and see them when you did though.

I would have hated to have gone three days later.

The rust issue was one of a few things why I traded our BA2 XR8. A mate had his repaired three times in the same spot so trade your car for a GS quick.

Just to chime in in defense of the Falcon lol - I never once spotted any rust on my BA Falcon. I never parked it under cover in the 4 years i owned it. I never put a cover over the top of it either. The problem with the boots is if you park them facing down hill, the water will pool near the bolts, soak into the gaps and then rust occurs. I always parked it the other way around and kept it clear of leaves and dirt etc.

I live in the Hawkesbury (Nth West Sydney), at least 60+ kms from the coast, so salt air was not a contributor to the rust. Yeah, the dealer has been very helpful with this issue even though I stopped going there years ago after my car was tuned, it is just the local...Winford Motors. But in actual fact they have always been good to my car when it came to warranties, they also know that I have bought numerous cars from them in the past and they want me to keep coming back...BUT Winfords don't sell FPV's anymore so looking at Sinclairs or Power Ford.

I would strongly suggest any others out there that are whos cars are approaching the 5 year mark to thoroughly check their cars for rust, keep in mind Ford will not repair rust on panels that have been resprayed of replaced. The warranty is there so use it!

Majority of the time its garaged and only outside when driving, usually on the weekends. It used to be parked at my local train station during the week, then garaged at night.

Ford should have developed a moulded plastic section to clip in and stop the water from touching the metal joints in that area, i guess the whole section below the rear windscreen. It would have been cheaper then repairing what I assume must be thousands of B series Falcons again assuming people are claiming the repairs through Ford.
