Question chev bowties on a holden

but what is it with putting chev badges on a holden??

the other day I seen one with the pontiac front end, and it looks good but then it had chev badges all over it and holden centre caps on the wheels, I was like well what sort of car is this and what does this guy want!!

You want to hear something really interesting?

A few years back, we had a VX Commodore Lumina, and put clear taillights on it (don't laugh, with the burgandy metallic a few touches of chrome looked very nice...).
I put the old taillights on Ebay, and two guys started a bidding war, and I ended up selling them for $120. So what, you might say?
The interesting part is that one guy was in New York and the other in Denver, Colorado. I spoke to the winner, the guy in New York, and he said that he had a then-new Pontiac GTO. It was a "done thing" to replace the Pontiac front end, taillights, and all badging to make it once again a Holden Monaro "to be different and stand out from the crowd". Apparently a lot of US owners loved the car itself but didn't really like the droopy-looking Pontiac front bar, and were ordering panels and stuff from Australia to make them look like the much more purposeful Australian Monaro once again. He sent me a pic of his black Monaro sitting on the pier with the Statue Of Liberty off in the background some distance away. If I can track it down I'll post it here.

I told him that it was a craze here to take off the Holden badges and put Chev badges on them to obviously make them look American. He thought that was a bit odd.
At least the Yanks were doing the right thing by making what had originally been a Holden back into a Holden again...what point is there putting Chev badges onto a Holden when it's a Holden and not a Chev?

I always wanted to put Buick badges on our VX, as it had the V6, which was descended from the original VN V6 which was a Buick motor anyway...

Chev badges on a Holden......makes me wonder if people put Lexus badges on Toyotas?

Don't let them see this site....could open a whole can of worms!

I have always wondered why someone would buy a vehicle of any type and then try to disguise what it is.

Are they really THAT ashamed of the Holden badge.........

Theres no way I would be dropping the HSV badges for Chev... IMHO - There is the chev grill with badge which I think lloks good, but the actual whole chev badge on a holden I think is stupid.

I like the Holden badges on my Commodore. Even thinking of going back to the original badges instead of later ones.

Agreed. The Chev badge looks good, but it's stupid on a Holden IMO. My old man is looking at getting a VZ SS Ute. The first thing I told him is when he gets one it better not have Chev badges otherwise it can park out in the street.

a lot of people who cirtisise the opposition, are the same people who think its ok to put a bonnet bulge on a car that doesn't need it, or xr front treatment on gl/xt, etc etc

I think if people just listen to the you tube links, & realise that even if this has been done to death, it will happen again, as is real conversations in the real world as well the vids are quite funny

When I first saw the SSV sportwagon I instantly fell in love with the look. But the one thing I instantly hated ABOUT ITS APPEARANCE was that god awful big chrome lion on the front grille. The chrome lion means nothing to me. I have no allegence to Holden even though my first car was an L34 Torana. I have no allegence to Ford either even though my second car was an XB Hardtop and you may as well add Nissan to that list as my last car was a twin turbo 300ZX. So a big chrome lion on the grille is an eye sore to me and a lot of my fellow commodore owners. For as little as $40 I can replace it with a more masculine chevy/pontiac badge. Here's the rub, I replaced my chrome lion with a SSV badge and that draws a lot of positive attention.
