Crap...BMW already have Euro 6 compatible engines both diesel and petrol. They even make more power.

Not to mention that the quality of diesel in Australia is now the same as the Euro diesel based on sulphur content.
I call BS. Just because my diesel car gets better fuel economy than their hybrid and it already had a particulate filter, and it's 5 years old!

So is lead-acid battery technology. Well I think the comment is pretty much true, but I don't see Toyota/Lexus as having all the answers right now either. One technology I would like to see right now, is hydraulic hybrid which is 300% more efficient than current parallel electric hybrids.

Mercedes have also questioned diesels ability to survive past another decade, as development and unit costs will blow out to make them emissions compliant.
But more of an issue for Toyota as they lag well behind the others in diesel tech, they need to be pushing the hybrid barrow as they have no answers, especially Lexus which does not even compete with the Euro diesels. |

Toyota don't really like Diesel. There is a reason why we don't have a Diesel Corolla, Camry, Rav-4 or Kluger in Australia.
They've put their eggs into their Hybrid basket, which might be foolish, when Australia is embracing Diesel like never before.

I'm just going to put it on record that i'm with toyota and I forsee that diseasel's will be not around for too much longer. They are not the answer to emissions or fuel economy.

Looks like diesel is more toxic than pee!

I'd say diesel is more a thing of the future, than destined for the history books.

Ironic considering some people who drove Lexi are dead too.. I'll take this guy more seriously when his company makes cars that actually stop.

Might have something to do with Japan being outpaced by the Europeans in Diesel tech at the moment. When they do go diesel they source from Europe. The Diesels in the Suzuki Viatara & Nissan X-trail are examples here.
But as a long term solution, the clocks ticking on all fuels. Energy storage technology is moving much faster than any fuel engine. Lithium Ion technology is not heavy and has high energy density. The new Tesla S is a good example of where we are heading. http://www.teslamotors.com/models |

As said before, Mercedes is already working on a diesel replacement. They are combining the benefits of petrol engines (emissions) and Diesels (efficiency)
Basically a will be part time spark iginition, and part time compression iginition. If any company has been the leader of technology on vehicles, its Mercedes. Pretty sure Ford is also working something similar too
