What about a military style radar jamming device? Since all the newer cameras are all radar based technically they can be jammed.

The power requirements for such an item might be high and potentially fitting could be an issue but I’m very curious if such devices can actually be bought in say Russia or China or any other similar place.

Maybe the first time in over 20 years where I've felt my vote actually mattered!

Jamming is easy but is easily detected and a serious federal offence...i.e. cheap holiday in share box with big hairy "friend".

Just don't even think about doing it...

There is rumour going around that the same idea is on the table up here in QLD. This got me thinking about what the public can do about it. No matter what idea you come up with, unfortunately it will take getting the vast majority of the public behind it and most options involve some short term discomfort or inconvenience to the general public. Not something that is likely to happen as most prefer to just complain in meek little voices amongst each other and not to anyone that really matters.

The ideas of revolving license plates or removing them altogether are amusing but not likely to happen, there is little chance the public will support this act. The other idea I had was for an organised protest involving everyone refusing to pay their rego for one year or until an acceptable agreement is made in the use of speed cameras. Again an illegal act so not likely to get support as well as the CTP issues involved.

Another idea that I came up with and much more workable, although it still requires an "all in" approach and it will be inconvenient in the short term for those that participate. The idea is a two part procedure.

The first is that all those that can, refuse to use their car and use only public transport. Obviously those that do not have safe access to public transport may have to use their car for a reduced amount to get to public transport. Those that use their car, truck or bus for work will not be able to do this either. Just having the vast majority of the public doing this for one week will cause chaos. Not a city in this country has the infrastructure to support such a public commuter work load and the system will fail on the first day. The overtime demands on the public transport system would cost the government vast amounts and the government would not even get the revenue from the speed cameras, no one driving means no one speeding. The fuel companies will also take a financial hit, half as many people using a car means half as much fuel being used. This drop in turnover will cost the fuel companies millions per day (plus massive losses to the government from lost fuel excise). Keep this sort of action up and I would not be surprised if the fuel companies begin real pressure on the government to drop the idea of changing the fudge factor on speed cameras.

The second part is that during the same time all those that have no choice but to use private vehicles or have to use a vehicle for work, when they are driving they do so at half the posted speed limit. This would cause large traffic flow problems and again no speeding fines, more lost revenue for the government.

Anyway, just an idea and I have no doubt it needs some work, the point is there is no point in complaining about it to each other, that will get us nowhere.

Today I drove from Townsville to Hervey Bay in my XY. It was pouring raing and the road was cut in several places. Traffic was crawling at less than 80km/h but I saw 5 speed cameras, 3 highway patrols, 4 escorts (1 with 3 cars) but not one copper near the cut roads or at either Ayr or Proserpine cop shops when I went to look for road conditions.

QLD is definitely broke.......

P.S. the XY got through 40cm deep water, two commodores did not....blub blub..

Trying not to be. Just asking if your seat changed parties (from Labor to Liberal).

Flappist - Oxford Street means what, exactly? The ALP is on Sussex St, the Libs are on William St, and Parliament House is on Macquarie St. Auntie Pauline might be quite good for the conservatives - she was a member of the Liberals.

Go for a walk up and down Oxford street tonight and it will become clear. Make sure you wear boxer shorts.

Pauline does not have a lot of time for Abbot as he was the main driving force behind her trumped up arrest and incarceration.

She managed to do something that absolutely terrified both the Libs & Labor. She created an alternative party that for a short time actually held more seats than Libs and Nats combined.
The incumbent feds (lib/nat/lab/dem) all joined together in a strategy to destroy both ON and Pauline by individual attacks against each member.
Amusingly they then turned on the Democrats and did exactly the same thing.

But be that as it may, Pauline is not anti car in any way but is very anti nanny state so will be an enemy of scrooby and his forum minions.....

Just quickly read through this thread after also seeing on Today tonight a similiar proposed idea for Victorian motorists.... As a safe, competant, capable tax paying driver 'and' rider i find these propositions utterly OUTRAGIOUS!!!!
If us road users don't stand on these RIDICULOUS ideas and put a stop to it we will all be driving around broke and unlicensed... And then they will fine and suspend us all for doing so from their very rules.... Honestly how far is this sad state of revenue raising affairs going to go???
