A question about the roof lining on my XR8. A small area of the material has come away from the backing(flapping in the wind) and i was wondering what is the best way to fix it back in position. It's on an edge so I can get underneath it to put some type of glue or the likes. Which is best for doing the job properly and not leaving marks/stains.

3M Super 74 Contact Adhesive. Works perfectly.
Just make sure that you let it go off for a little bit first, and dont use too much as then you will get stains coming through. Youre probably already aware of this, but its only a temporary fix, once your lining starts to come away in one spot, its on its way out and needs replacing at some point in the near future. |

Ive got some 'selleys kwik grip' from bunnings and used on mine. I think they had the 3m stuff there but the kwik grip sounded better. Had a section at the front come away about 3months ago and since spraying it back together it hasn't moved once

 fair enough. It seems to have worked good for me. There is a 3rd brand I used once I think it was from an auto store and I couldn't even get the lining to restick at all. Not sure what the name of it was though

Yeah, it also doesnt help when your trying to stick it to an already deteriorating surface. So to the OP, make sure you clean as much of the loose old foam off as you can.

once it starts to come away it will keep deteriorating for a couple of hundred you can get it recovered as good as new

I've also used the small spray can of Kwik Grip to good effect recently.

Hi there....
mine came of on the driver side in the corner of the rear window.. I used like a UHU stick..but just a tiny tiny bit...applied it with a finger pulled the fabric back and sticked it to the hard shell..after that I massaged the fabric with a soft sponge...it worked well... It sounds clumsy and unprofessional but that was the best temporary solution until I get the proper spray glue...you can't see a difference. All guys who have fixed the roof lining like that (with 3M etc.).... how big is the likelihood that the spray glue soaks through the fabric so that you can see it... Is that 3M like a dry spray glue with a fine mist? Oh...and if you really have to renew the roof lining....can trimmers match the color scheme ? I guess the standard color of the roof lining is a light grey/beige tone....are there exact color replacements available? Thanks guys... cheers The Moose |

I just took my Fairmont wagon to Moorooka auto trim. $200 for a wagon. I paid it and they did a really good job.
My roof looked like a falling parachute it was terrible to its a major face lift to have it looking new again. Much better than the 3 staples i put it it at one point LOL. |

I think it was $160 for my sedan. Materials would have cost me at least half that

I used a can of multi purpose spray adhesive on the wagon above the drivers door about 3 years ago and it's still holding up and before that, on a NF Fairlane for the same end result. Having said that, it did take 2 attempts on the Fairlane because I didn't clean out first. So as Scotty85 says, clean out the old dead foam before you glue it.
