Went to the beach yesterday afternoon. Got back to the car later that day to find damage to the drivers door. A good samaritan left a note on my windcreen with the details of the who hit my car but they didn't leave any contact details. Went to the police who then visted the alleged offender and they claimed they didn't do it. What can I do? %$#& I am ****ed off.

go to your insurance company with the details, they can send them a letter demanding that they bring in the car for an inspection to prove it wasnt involved. if he doesnt they can then take it to the police. had a simular thing happen last year

Does the vehicle details and colour etc match up? ie did the note say XYZ Maker, Model, Rego and colour. Or Rego only? Can you tell the colour of the vehicle that hit from the marks? Did the cops look at the suspected car?
Good luck with it mate. Poor form by the person.

Did your unidentified witness write down the time?
Pitty you didn't see the incident yourself from a distance and wrote down the license plate number... (if ya know what i mean...) |

Mate I had an eyewitness and CCTV footage, although the CCTV footage didn't show the licence plate.
Cops went to his place and he said it wasn't him. End of story. I complained to the Police Minister. Two months later they reopened the case, by now the incident was more than 6 months old and the statute of limitations applied (6 months in NSW, 12 months in some other states) Insurance company wouldn't do anything because the Police took no action. I went to the local court and filled out the papers, paid $80 fee, plus $35 for Sheriff to serve the papers. The guy coughed up the money straight away. If it ever happens again and the Police won't do anything, I'd fill in the court papers straight away. Getting a legal document served on them by the Sheriff really sorts them out. PM me if you want to know how to do this stuff, it's pretty easy. |

Can feel your pain someone backed into the rear of mine out the front of a busy coffee shop though no-one left a note and no one said anything smashed my rear spoiler, dented and scratched my boot.

The worst part is that the same people that that hit people's cars and drive off would be the first people to whinge like stuck pigs if anybody did the same to them...

thats bad luck mate , its very disheartening when you look after your gear and someone damages it and does`nt do the right thing, just the other day i was in meadowfair shopping centre car park, (i usually avoid the place like the plague) i`m on my way up one of the isles on my way out, there`s a shiela in a little car coming the opposite way and she`s veering towards me.............i`m thinking she`s cutting in close to me so she can get a swing in the empty parking spot behind me, bam the dopey cow on a mobile phone slammed into my mirror , it folded my mirror up against the door and scratched it , the damage was minor , but the inconsiderate dopey halfwitted moronic cow did`nt even stop to apologise or anything, she kept right on going, where do these scumbags come from? do you think it will take much to repair your door? i suspect you will have to wear the damage without a confession or the witness details, good luck with it.

Sometimes it makes you wish that the registration fee included 3rd party insurance too.
