AutoCAD Gurus

Anyone here use AutoCAD for work/home, etc?

I've been using it for well over 7 years now, various certificates. I believe I'm at an advanced level in 2D stuff...

Just touching on 3D when I can.

Came up with this this morning, just a basic intake trumpet kinda thing I guess...more so playing with materials, etc...Obviously it isn't realistic at all...so no need to comment on the realism of it haha.

Eventually I wouldn't mind getting more into it....I have an ABN, but have never done any outside work aside from small drafting things here and there for friends.

great work, are you doing this for something to do??
or are you going to machine this?? if so depending on the CNC softwear
keep in both formats 2D/3D as some will only accept 2D while other accept both..

what version of auto cad are you useing? R12~R14, 2000...with or without digital machanic..

I'm just doing it for something to do.

Using aCAD 2011...On a Dell Precision T7500.

Looks good mate. I too have been using Cad for about 8years. It is certainly easier to do 3D modelling with the new versions. We get the regular updates but use addon packages which don't keep up with Acad updates. I'm still using 09 cause I have it setup exactly how I like and been to busy to be bothered setting up 2010, 2011 (no addon upgrade yet for 2012 although have loaded it). Always considered getting an ABN to do contract drafting. How do you go about getting one?

Moving out of AutoCAD here and into SolidWorks. I still spend most of my day on AutoCAD 2D though (2008 on my laptop). Been CAD'ing for 9 years (mech engineer).

I'd spend more time doodling on it for fun if I didnt spend 40 to 50 hours a week on it for work already. But it feels too much like work if I use it at home now days.

Are you using Inventor?

Just plain jane 2011....

I'm a technical officer but have moved away from CAD in the last few months, barely touch it now.

Have you used much inventor before?

Just a bit of a play. Most of the 3D modelling software packages have similar interfaces anyway. It normally comes down to what functionality the software package has that decides which is chosen. Thats why we went SolidWorks at work, better FEA analysis functions in the basic package and more comprehensive analysis features in the premium package.

Plus the fact that the 'sister' company we deal with has been using it for nearly 8 years.

I'm still a novice with it myself though.

Use Solidworks at work, fails constantly. Takes huge time to load assemblies (semi-trailers). But if it works probably is pretty good.

Spend most of my time using 2d AutoCAD 2002 version. But also use 2 programs called FlowCut and Flowpath with the assistance of autocad to operate the water jet cutter.

I use AutoCAD Inventor 2012 suite (have used since 2009 Suite).

Very simple for 3D modeling, i have designed a 3D version of the window suite at the company i work at, and some furniture for my house.

My friend also designed an adapter for a supercharger to fit his engine on it.

Its fantastic stuff.

I used to use AutoCad 2009 for 2D stuff, now I use unigraphics NX for modelling and ANSYS for FEA. The NX I find much nicer to use than AutoCad.

I've never used AutoCAD but keen to give it a go, was looking at a course to try it in the near future.

I use ProE and Solidworks mostly, have a few smaller 2D programs but don't really use them.

IMO if you can do a Helical thread in any 3D Cad program you're a Guru
