hey guys. so im gonna do my sump gasket. and take out the cross member. i had a look in the how to but couldn't see anything that would help.
just wondering if anyones done it and if there are any tricks i need to know. have a bit of time yet. the project is happening may 27 |

could you just undo the engine mounts and jack the motor up as far as it will go and change the gasket. I'd do this with a one piece gasket but with 4 piece i just drop the sump. I won't be pulling out the crossmember to change the sump gaskets in either of my 5ls.

Cars on jack stands. I have a ford mech helping me whose pretty sic at life. It's either engine out or x member out. Dave seems to think x member is easiest. I have faith in his decesion.

fair enough, i would not have thought it would be that extreme to change a sump gasket on a six. It must be pretty tightly packed in there. Can you just lower the crossmember down to the ends of the bolts instead of completely removing it?

I think plans gonna b.
Block and tackle the engine from shed roof to hold it. Undo engine mounts drop x member, power steering rack, sway bars and do it like that. He did heaps on ef/l's but none on au's. It'll sort |

Hahahahahaha. Ill try remember. Front timing case is also coming off and changing that gasket to be sure to be sure its not gonna leak. Will try take pics.

Having replaced a complete front K frame / cross member I can tell you this is not a job to be taken lightly. However, if you are comfortable on the tools and in no great rush it is not too bad to do. You will as said need to drop steering rack, sway bar and a few other bits and pieces. I would be seeing if by un bolting the engine mounts you can get the clearance required that way as that would be much easier.
