commodore name to go??????

i've noticed over the past few weeks that on the series 2 VE's not 1 of them has a commodore badge on them. they have sv6, ss, calais,even omega but not commodore. the ve series 1 had commorode on one side & omega on the other to show it's the base model just like falcon xt, is this just an asthetic's thing or are holden going to phase out the name gradually?..

I highly doubt theyd phase out such an iconic name, perhaps there playing on the fact everyone know's what a commodore is.

calais has never been a commodore. as for the others, maybe they've decided they don't need to state the obvious.

i doubt they would drop the commodore name.

Yeh not like they have done it before.

Can you move the torana, I have to park the kingswood behind the belmont so I can get the statesman out to go over to Dazza's house, he just bought a premier from the wrecker.

Its to do with the cruze now being made at Elizabeth, alongside the commodore. Its was too difficult for the workers to work out that the "cruze" nameplate went on the small car, and the "commodore" name went on the big car. There was a great fear that dealers might start receiving 1.8 litre commodores.

would hardly call it an iconic name it is really a relativly young name if you compare it to the falcon. they have ditched a long running name before after all. they could have transfered the old kingswook premier etc names over but decided to ditch a name many related to

What would be the point of that. Without competition the Commodore's opponents never become better.

If Holden closed doors today and not a single Commodore ever rolled off the line again, you think Ford AU are going to invest another $600 Million into developing a new Falcon.. I doubt it. You'll have FG series after series, face-lift after face-lift for the next 10-12 years until someone like Toyota has claimed the majority of the market in the large car class.

No forget it, you'll have a Ford Taurus after Ford Taurus, because there's no reason to produce a locally built Falcon anymore.

I think they've already started phasing out Holden badges with Chev badges, because that's all I ever see on them these days...

Ford have done the same thing with Falcon.
Look at the previous models, they were all Falcon-something. Falcon GL, Falcon Futura, Falcon S, Falcon XR, then Fairmont and Ghia.

How many Falcons actually have a Falcon badge on them anymore? It became just the Futura in B-series and the XT and XR are the only ones left in FG.

all falcons (xt, xr's) still have the falcon badge, fairmonts & g6;s are like calais & berlina's.. im refering to the fact that you don't see ford releasing the fg with falcon xt (base model) with only an XT badge on the boot, but holden is now doing that with their base model, no commodore badge, just the omega one..

Why not? They phased out the equally iconic (if not more so) Kingswood name tag. Ford just dumped the hugely iconic name of Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia for the rediculous "G6 and G6E" name tags which, frankly, mean nothing and condemn the owner (ie: me...

) to a lifetime of explaining to people exactly what it is you drive if they can't see the car.
Kingwood was a much-loved name, yet it went, and I seem to remember the same lamenting back in the late seventies when it vanished from the landscape.

"Not the Kingswood! I just Mr Sheened the tappet cover!!!"
