From what I've gathered 280 is epic for an AU motor. If you can't get 300 kw out of a ba motor your doing something wrong.

That's the only reason I say that. And the added annoyance of getting it legal.

yep, agree with that. if you're not chasing huge numbers or a lot of boost the stage 2 kit for $3k will be fine. you just need to tune it and get the piping done for the intercooler. i was thinking of going with one of these when i can afford it.

200hp? you could do that on 3 cylinders. 200rwkw is quite achievable and no worries on the au motor.

You'd hardly get the basics for $4k.

Snort kit at $3k, J3 chip for $200, intercooler piping $200, dunno if you will get it tuned for $600.

Do you get a fuel pump with the snort kit? You will need one.

Mine makes 280rwkw, its still my daily and gets good economy but my ECU and fuel system cost $4k. :S

definately agree with others. turboing a non turbo application should never be attempted on the frills budget. Id consider saving a bit longer, to save a lot more in the long run.

according to the snort site it's a "tuner kit" so no injectors, pump or fuel reg. j3 chip plus programmer and a wideband o2 sensor and reader might get you there, but it'd be close to the $600 anyway if not more, then you have to know what you are doing to tune it properly...

Dont forget the AU2 ECU has a sleep at anything above around 2 psi.

It needs a 2 bar map sensor and a J3 or a fuel cut defender at a minimum on top of the turbo kit.

I wouldn't use a cheap kit to begin with. Turboing your car is a long road and you always end up wanting more. Spending more now will save you spending double later when all your cheap gear isnt good enough anymore.

There was an AU at wolf when mine was getting retuned who had the turbo and manifold off being replaced because they were of poor quality and restricted the power to 230rwkw.

au11futura- check out affordable performance, he is in SA and makes up complete turbo kits for I6 falcons. his kits are performing very well on a number of cars in the country.

cheaper than the Snort kit aswell.

as dan said, you get what you pay for. i've had my garrett for years, no problems. i've heard of cheap turbo's failing when first being tuned.
the snort kits are exceptionally good value and proven kits.

Id only attempt a cheap build if I knew what I was doing. When I started mine, I didnt have much of an idea so I paid someone else to fit and tune it for me. Thousands later, yes I could have done a lot better with the cash I spent, but in the end my setup is pretty reliable and has been for over 2 years.

George, what ever you budget, add another 50% in savings to cover yourself, and then some. Don't go into this build half committed, it will just bring heart ache. Take your time, research everything, ask questions and keep focused on the end goal.

He could buy CMYAU3's kit and give it to Bruce to fit and tune. Win/Win situation.

I have to admit, its a pretty decent price for the turbo kit alone. All the pipe work etc is already done. Exhaust is already done. I assume it was good for 250rwkw base power.

these are the guys ive been talking to.

nice prices not overthe top and good advise, but had to get forum members advise aswell as you guys are the ones who have done these sort of conversions, and have learnt about some of the probs that come with them.

but as shav, and a few others know ive always been the guy who stands back and realy thinks things through..

research is the key i say, i will get 200hp without oppening the motor but turboing is my plan B...
