Yes but there were about 20 ADRs to comply with back then, now in the legalistic 21st Century.......

I agree 100% Poyal, FPV need more customisation to differentiate their product from Ford. Special order paint colour would be a good place to start. I'd pay a couple of thou for that.
Although Rodge thats the one concession ill give them, they are stuck for paint. The likelihood of FPV only paint is minimal, I think the demise of the XR8 has brought on the lowering in the FPV palette simply because before Im pretty sure they would run down some XR8's with say Blood Orange/Citric Acid etc etc and follow it with some GT's.

Also the FG shape does seem to lend itself to more mature/stylish colours...but I guess a photoshop would sort that out to see what they look like (even then in the metal its different).

Nice pic Scott!

True Flappist, there would be a lot of ADR's to comply with, so that ship has sailed. I can dream though! Seriously, the Mondeo wagon is pretty capable anyway for what I would use it for and has an efficient automatic diesel to boot, and is built in greater volume to comply with Euro (and our) design rules and is priced keenly compared to other mid/large wagons. Then there is our most likely upgrade, an AWD diesel Territory, which does all that and tames snow without the use of chains on 2wd-chain days...

Back on topic:

V8 on the base model with manual and larger brakes.
Don't forget the racing stripes.
Column shifter sedans, make use of all that space that the midsizers cannot match now you can have column shift with the 6 speed ZF.

Isn't this just "how things used to normally be" at the dealerships?

You'd start with the most basic bog stock dunger you wanted, and then add extras. Sometimes the option book would be truly massive, and with virtually everything you wanted. And sometimes things you didn't want.
My Aunts second husband had an early seventies Fairlane, factory ordered, with 250 six, auto, white interior, purple paint, rear venetian blind, hubcaps, and a few other touchs. Unfortunately it got sold by his son when the old guy got Dementia...no idea where it went.
His brother meanwhile was a Valiant man. And no one played the "do whatever the hell you want" game like Valiant. He had a VH Regal. The baby 215 hemi, three speed manual (on the tree yet!), Brown vinyl interior with bench seat front, air conditioning, power steering, and 770 full instrument dash. Then the exterior. Purple paint, yellowish colour vinyl roof, hubcaps. Good lord. Last I heard the guy still had it.

Nowadays if you want a towbar or a full-sized spare wheel it's a major undertaking at some dealers.

Most people always mention the biggest engine and manual box with the base model. Same with "racing stripes"...they underestimate the attractiveness of some stripes to the average punter to make them feel like thier base model dunger is "special", if only to them.

Where's the $0 extra option.

What with JIT (just in time), lean and agile manufacturing practices where the right parts show up on the production line just as they're required this should be kids stuff. Who even needs a dealer. Just tick the box's as required and send the order off to the factory and it should all happen automatically.

Its the Sales & Marketing dept that wants a nice concise, discrete model range so they can price them up to what the market will stand and maximise profits.

It should be a walk in the park for manufacturing.

XR6 with new Territory touch screen, 16" 1 tonne wheels, 2.7L V6, G6E seats and premium stereo in 6sp manual.

If you could chop and change between multiple models other than Falcon/Territory, i'd swap the G6E interior for the WS Fiesta interior/sound.

Options were a big part of the original Mustang success story weren't they?

But I want to be able to de-option my ride.

FG XT delete sound deadening, radio, passenger sun visor and wiper, electric windows (graft in some winders) and seats, etc.
Shoot it in fleet white, 16 inch steelies with crap brakes, giraffe ride height, oh and add the 5.0 SC.

Interesting...the old "delete option", well, option, that cars used to all have. You could save money by deleting stuff you didn't want.
I think the marketing nowadays is driven by the fact that very few people go in and "build thier dream car" and wait for it to be delivered. We intended to do this with the XR6 or SV6 we were considering, but when the G6E came up sitting on the showroom floor packed with everything we ever wanted at the right price, we bought it as it was and just added a towbar. Most people just look what's sitting there are pick one.

I'd rather the current models not all built like base model fleet hacks but some with leather and/or colour screen.

All the new models at the dealer are all the same with different colours. If it cost a few extra to get some of the options over the special prices I'd say it would shift a few more units. So I chose the not interested option.

Now thats what im talking bout to many gadgets not enough driving round and enjoying the road (well some roads you cant enjoy but anyway) people have to be always playin with stuff.
I would be in for deleted options and the window winders arent such a silly thing how many cars you know that dont have power windows. There are so many that noone talks bout it like they are are special cause they arnt.
Have a look at the options list on the cars and how long it is.
Have a look at when someone sell a falcon and they write in the options list that i dont even take notice anymore at, we have been saturated with options and they are not special anymore.
I have all these gadgets in my GT that i dont even use cause im having to much fun with the car only.

I agree that we are in many ways starved for options that use to be freely available. eg Diff ratios, trim combinations etc. I would like the exterior like the GTE, with the GTP wheels and interior in a manual please, and of course the supercharged V8. Not too hard you would think with all these parts available, but not in the combination I like. Oh, and a nicer blue please, like my blueprint gtp.
They lose a customer like me who would like to have a customised vehicle. I can't stand the woodgrain in the gte and f6e. I don't like their seats either. And i prefer a manual. But I am not a fan of big wings for everyday cars either, so the GT is out.

Customers like yourself are not hard to keep happy, the fact Ford/FPV cannot or should i say will not make the said spec GTE is why their sales stats are so pathetic.

I reckon there would be 20-30 of us on this forum alone that would buy a car like this. It is why I still have a BF ghia daily.

Agreed. It's not like they don't have the parts lying around, or that they need to certify them. And when the plant is so quiet at the moment that you can hear the crickets, they sure as heck could do with the extra work.

This sounds like you are describing a modern version of the ED XR8 Sprint - subtle exterior, manual and the heart of an absolute beast.

The sprint was my kind of car. I couldn't afford one at the time and ended up with a manual EBxr8. Followed that up with an 185kw EL XR8 because it was quicker than the EL GT at the time and was not filled with wings and that grille...
