Fake singer sprung finally

So i now wonder how all those people fantasizing over her feel??
But it makes you wonder just how good CGI is if its good enough to fool 10 of 1000s of people.
Who or what else out there is fake?

MANUFACTURED POP: A Japanese confectionary company insisted their ad with Aimi Eguchi was real, but later admitted she is a computer animation.

Fans of a huge Japanese female pop group were shocked to learn that the newest member they were fawning over is in fact a computer-generated composite of the other group members.

AKB48 is an all-female "idol" group - one of many comprising nubile young women who are idolised by Japanese geeks mainly because of their flawless looks.

The group produces songs and appears in theatre shows and on TV. It holds the Guinness World Record for being the "pop group with the greatest number of members" - dozens are spread into four teams.

Earlier this month Aimi Eguchi was announced as the newest member. ChannelNewsAsia reported that Eguchi received reams of publicity "because of her flawless looks and her uncanny resemblance to other AKB48 members".

According to Eguchi's profile, she is a 16-year-old from Saitama, north of Tokyo. The teen featured in the Japanese magazine Weekly Playboy; it is not uncommon in Japan for grown men to fawn over anime characters and pop idols who appear to be teenagers.

Eguchi also appeared in a 15-second television commercial for a Japanese confectionary company, Ezaki Glico, raising suspicions of some die-hard AKB48 fans as usually only the most popular group members - as voted for by fans - star on TV.

Some fans, however, were defending her humanity and AKB48 management continued the ruse by declaring: "She's real!"

Soon, the jig was up - Glico has admitted that Eguchi is fake and released a video showing how she was created. The character is a composite of various features of the existing group members.

Eguchi has also appeared in an additional video introducing herself in Japanese.

Milking the ruse further, the confectionary maker has published a tool on its website allowing people to create their own AKB48 girls and then share them on Facebook or Twitter.

According to the Daily Yomiuri, AKB48 sell more than 1 million CDs whenever they release a new song and over 1.16 million fans voted in a recent "general election" to determine which member was the most popular.

I saw this the other day. Looks very real. From what I can tell, they took features from 5 different girls. Pretty cool to see the final result.

Most pop stars are fake these days anyway aren't they. Most probably can't sing to save themselves, but autotune makes them sound good.

agreed, everyone bagged britney spears when she lipsynched at her concerts, but jeez, some of these others should do the same i think.

katy perry springs to mind, live she sounds like someone is de-furring a ****ed off feral cat.

Did you see Katy in concert? I went twice with the boss at Brisbane and they were both awesome concerts!! That chick can sing.

Yes but at least they are real people as opposed to computer generated image which sings...

There was an ad made of a CGI female tennis player. It said that she was ranked near the bottom. The last line was that the picture was a fake and computer generated.

Funny enough many didn't read the last line and called up looking to sponsor her as she was a stunner. So I believe this.

Is it just me or does every Japanese ad consist of a schoolgirl close up in colourful clothes superimposed on a coloured background talking giggling, then taking a sip of drink/putting a lolly into mouth then smiling.

No matter what they are advertising, this seems to be the common template for Japanee Adverts.

To use the words Britney Spears and Katy Perry in the same sentence as Singer is an oxy moron , hell to even use them on the same page is just a plain insult .
