Booby trap's found on beach

Mr Gittins said the booby traps had been laid in sand dunes just off a road leading to the beach, which is popular with surfers and fishermen. They were buried under sand and piles of leaves.

"Whoever has made them has gone to a lot of trouble," he said. "If you look at the design, if someone stood on one, the spikes would go straight through their foot and they'd be badly impaled.

"They haven't been there that long, either, because they're not rusty."

Fingal is a peninsula between the Tweed River and Pacific Ocean. It houses both an Aboriginal community and beachfront millionaires.

Local Aborigines have staged protests against development but Mr Gittins said anyone could have laid the booby traps.

He said beach tracks used by 4WDs had recently been excavated in an effort to make them impassable.

Jet skier Guy Neumann, who helped the Gittins family after their tyre was punctured, said he feared the tracks could be "laced" with booby traps.

It doesn't help that the courts let people off with stuff like this, but the state poos its pants when somebody goes 5km/h over the speed limit.

when i was very young i got a massive slice on my toe as i was running on the beach from a broken bottle in the sand. was it there on purpose i will never know.

mongrels that do this kind of stuff have no place in our society.

who are they to take matters into their own hands to try and get rid of them?

These Booby traps AKA Man traps are a prisionable offence if the person laying them is found, well used in Vietnam on tracks, my old man has seen the results of one of these made from bamboo, not nice.

its a shocker to know, but similar to what was in the 'Rambo' movies.

Bambo carved to being so pointy it can pierce Rhino skin. Laid against other bamboo and when you trip the wire they shoot up. instant death.

Harsh to believe i think they still use these in the Cambodian region to catch wild animals. The occasional tourist gets caught in them.
