I have a 99 Cougar and the ABS red light is on all the time. Have checked the brake sensors and they are OK. Looks like I may need a new module. Took it to ford and they Self tested for codes.
Report shows "FAULT CODES LOGGED B1201-HEC+FUEL SENDER CIRCUIT FAILURE. B1318-HEC BATTERY VOLTAGE LOW." Any thoughts? I have read these modules could be in the $ thousands. Thanks Rod |

I had to have mine rebuilt a few months ago, had it done by a company in Sydney. My brake mechanic removed just the module not the pump and pipes and mailed it off to the repair company. It took about 3-4 days and cost about $275 approx, a bit better than what Ford quoted ($6,600 supply only). The company are on the net so you can search or contact via:-

I had this happen to me and the thing is that if your ABS light is ON it means it is not working. The brakes still work OK but you do not have ABS at the moment.
Apparently this is a design fault as the modules are mounted to close to the motor and the heat and vibration ultimately cause internal failiure of the circuit boards.

Have you had yours fixed? Are the modules easy to remove? I'm led to beleive they are in an awkward postion under the dash near the brake master cylinder Rod |

My "sparky" did mine and my understanding is the module is tucked up beside the motor somewhere. It is a bit bigger and thinner than a cigarette packet and is in an aluminium case. I know he bitched about what a hard job it was to get at it but then again it is always the same whenever ANYBODY has anything to do with ANYTHING under the bonnet of a cougar.

What arrow has said is correct, I had to have an CV boot replaced on mine so when they disconected the axle it gave better access to the module.
