Default Dave Newcombe Pro-Stock Mustang first to the 6's!!

well there has been talk of it for the last couple of years when an Aussie Pro Stock car will run a 6-second pass and well Dave Newcombe drove his Ford Mustang to a 6.994@194.80 to become the first Aussie Pro Stocker into the sixes, this great achievemnt was done during testing at Willowbank Raceway yesterday. tick up another record for Ford

also come close to a 6, was Paul Grima in his Pro Stock Mustang running a 7.002!

Dave Newcombe

Awesome isn't it!
Serious mph for a 400 cube deal, looks like they have it working well, one of my mates does the clutch on that car.

hard to not respect Pro stock. ultimate tin top imho

it's crazy to think it's only 400ci, 195mph @ 2300lbs = 1370hp. to get 3.5hp per cube NA out of an engine is ridiculous always loved Pro Stock also, the racing is so close. have seen Top 32 fields in the US separated by less than 1/10th of a second. the Top 8 here is usually very close also within a 1/10th.

That thing still has some tin left in its roof? It looks like a Nascar style shell around a rollcage deal.

the term Tin Top is confusing. it just means a car with a roof. Pro Stockers run a full carbon fibre shell. i think SteveJH thought it might have still have metal shell because of the term ''tin top''.

I thought dave newcombe raced a monaro? If so is dave running a ford engine in that mustang. Reason iam asking is what are the engine rules in pro stock?

Dave used to have that Pontiac GTO thing. Ford engine is built by John Barbagello and Jim Yates (NHRA Pro Stock driver) is down here helping with setting up the car. they are allowed up to 400ci, i think the engine mustmatch the shell but im not 100% on that.

- They're allowed up to 401ci
- Minimum weight is 2300lbs/1043.05kg
- There must be some recognised connection between the manufacturers of the body and the engine used (subject to ANDRA approval)

Paul, I have that 194.80 as a shade over 1300hp (not 1370hp) but either way, I reckon 1200hp is nuts from an aspirated 400ci V8!

the 500ci in the states are very impressive also, running 6.4-6.5's 2210+mph, which would roughly be around 1700hp. that is insane power for a forced induction engine let alone a NA.
