Your right about Kirkoran buying the shares, but your wrong about him being an investment guru - he's a corporate raider, and he doesn't always "raid" with the intention to keep a company as a going concern.

Raider to you, guru to me

He has signalled he thinks Hummer, Saab and other 'non core' brands should be flogged off. Personally I'm totally indifferent to whether Hummer exists or not. Saab is a tough one, would be sad to see it go, but its been absolutely thrashed lately.

Without him Chrysler would not still exist.

GM split up is better than no GM.

GM has a very healthy balance sheet, even if Delphi ends up costing it $11bn (the highest of estimates). It has nearly $30bn in cash, and options on borrowings worth $50bn. It will not go down quickley.
That is a very well written and very well informed post.

Makes me think that Ford is not far of chapter 11 as well.

I don't think they have the capital - they would have to go in with another company to buy it outright.

Meanwhile, Toyota and DaimlerChrysler are very cash rich....

I agree with the fact that even though they are in the red in a big way i still think that something will pull them out. Like nissan in 2001, i think. Not bought out. Although the amount of jobs that will probably be lost for them to make a profit... I hate to even think about it.
