How do you remove the trasmission mount?

Can someone tell me how to remove the transmission mount. From what I have read so far:
1. There is a bolt on the crossmember that you loosen
2. Then jack the transmission up slightly
3. Undo bolts that hold the transmission mount in place
4. Replace with new item

Is that how it is done?

I'm hoping that this may be the cause of the rough idle. The engine mounts are also a possible cause for sending vibration through the body of the car. How can you tell if they're worn?

AU engine mounts are fluid-filled, if one is stuffed there will be a black non-sticky/slimmy substance around it, more of a description and pics in the T-Series Room

There doesn't appear to be any of the fluid you described.

EDIT: found the thread in the T-Series room. Definately no fluid leaking from the mount. It definately makes quite a mess.

I'll get under the car and see if I can figure the trans mount out. I guess it is more likely that than the engine mounts seeing as they don't appear to be leaking any fluid.

Fingers crossed it is stuffed and solves my issues.

Are the trans mounts fluid filled also, or are they just a solid rubber/polyurethane item?

I had a look at the trans mount. There is a bracket that covers it. Can I take off the four bolts that hold it to the body of the car and the centre bolt that holds it to the mount and go from there? The mount itself felt dry and something was flaking off it.

The transmisson mount is just a normal rubber mount as far as i'm aware.

This thread reminds me, that i should probably have a good look at mine tomorrow and possibly look at replacing it.

have a jack or axel stand holding up the box cos she will drop as soon as yu undo the 4 bolts holding it to the floor pan

I finally got the old one off. However I think there is a problem...

I'm guessing the one I've bought is the wrong part (Even though I was told it was AU). It doesn't have the piece that actually goes into the trans itself.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but did the part end up working without the piece that goes into the transmission?

I've bought a replacement mount for my AU1 and it is the same as JMO's replacement.

Does the piece that goes into the tranny separate from the mount so you can reuse it?

I ended up using the mount and it's been fine. I think the new one is made out of urethane and the original is made out of rubber. It just bolts straight up - you can't remove the rear piece off the old one and reuse it.

Yeah my original one is buggered and the trans jumps and vibrates everywhere. The original rubber one is fully compressed (doesn't hold the conical shape) under the weight of the trans so hopefully the new one should fix that issue.
